For 2006 there are five different cluster part numbers with descriptions JCD, JDB, JCK etc. and no description of what those mean.

  • 56010678AE
  • 56010679AE
  • 56010680AE
  • 56010681AE
  • 56010682AE

Do all 2006 clusters contain the axle lock logic or do the Rubicon versions have their own specific cluster?

To put it another way, if you have a Rubicon and you need to change the cluster do you need to be careful which part number is on the replacement cluster or will any 2006 unit work?

Thanks, Andy

IIRC, somebody went down this path and got a cluster with the same P/N as was in their Rubicon and it didn't have the correct firmware load.

I don't remember if they found someone to load the Rubicon firmware or if they found a cluster from a Rubicon.

Ugh, thanks. OK so the whole thing is a pain it seems. Andy

Regarding the cluster part numbers this will be, based on the 2003 parts lists, part numbers for different markets.
In 03 the clusters have different part numbers, but there are descriptions rather than codes.

The descriptions along with the line codes are for the following
MPH
KPH without rear foglamp
MPH - RHD
KPH - RHD
KPH with rear foglamp

I would assume the markets for those would be
USA
CANADA
UK
Australia/NZ/S.Africa
Europe

That being the case I'd expect any USA cluster to be the same part number but possible different software number for the Rubi/non-Rubi.

What are your intentions here? Are you thinking you want the locker lights to light with aftermarket lockers? If so it won't be easy since they're operated by the PCM. You'd have to cut the wiring and provide 5 volts to the correct cluster wire for each of the two locker lights. And trust me, you really don't want to try to duplicate what the factory's lawyers created with the whole senseless locker lock/unlocking sequence/logic.

Make him talk Jerry. Put the squeeze on him.

I don’t even think this guy even has a modifications permit open.

All you Andys are all alike. Nothin' but troublemakers. :ROFLMAO:

I just left a guys house whose name is Andy. He is a NASA cost engineer. Which I figure means just bigger mistakes with taxpayer money.

I’ve noticed everybody with my name is a little off kilter.

On a serious note I looked up my entire name and found five people and everyone of the guys had a motorcycle in the background.

Kind of funny.

Just kidding on the Andy name of course. The first Andy I knew that I can remember was a great guy I worked for in the Air Force about a hundred years ago. I've googled him many times to say hello but never any luck. He was a fun guy from Tennessee with that awesome Tennessee way of talkin'.

😀

Seems most every Andy I have met is gregarious, personable and likable. Not sure that describes me but I’ve noticed it a lot.

Makes me think of Andy Kaufman now- lord he was nuts.

No I don't want the lawyer-logic. What I want is for the "rear lock" indicator to light up when the Eaton elocker is engaged and go out when it is disengaged.

Someone posted in another thread that a jumper wire can be made to go from the switch to the back of the cluster which intrigued me, however upon some reasearch it appears it is not so simple.

The after market switch I have outputs 12V when engaged to control the relay but the sense signal into the cluster is floating when disengaged and pulled to ground when engaged according to the FSM wiring diagram. OK, no problem. I can build a tiny circuit board that converts the white wire 12V signal from the switch into the active low sense signal the cluster needs.

But then I found out about all of this logic, so my guess is that simply connecting the sense signal to ground will not turn on the indicator because it probably needs to interact with the factory axle lock switch first to even start looking for a sense signal.

Even if the sense signal is usable without having all of the logic I still have the following questions:

- do non-Rubicon clusters even have the rear lock lamp?
- the wiring is missing from my vehicle so I would need to add a pin to the cluster connector, but what pin? what connector part number? Are those even available? I don't want to spend $100 on this to buy a Rubicon dash harness

So I am thinking this is all not worth the hassle and uncertainty. While I would like it to work it probably won't work.

If the 'rubicon stuff' is in the cluster, then that low (ground) signal might be all you need.
My override switches bypass the factory switch, and the dash light still works.
So, it would seem the cluster light doesn't care about how the locker got engaged.

OK that is very promising, thank you!

So now I need to figure out how to add the missing wire to the cluster connector because I don't have it at the C170 connector.

Might it be easier to just get a 12v LED, and modify the factory light bulb retainer so you can attach +/- wires to the back of the single LED bulb and run that? Then there would be no need to convert down to 5v, or find a pin for that harness connector.

Interesting idea! Andy
