Upgraded Headlights Again With Holley RetroBright LEDs

Have the RetroBrights for a little over a year so sharing my thoughts... I still love them. Zero complaints.

I installed LaminX film over the lenses to protect the polycarbonate. Had no issues with them freezing over at any point last winter. If you're looking for a great set of headlights, modern technology that are old school period correct visually, available in a variety of color temps, I highly recommend these.

The Hellas are half the price of those. I might go that route soon.

How did you deal with the raised logo when you installed the LaminX?

Lighting is not something I want to cut corners on. Not looking to waste money, but I also don't want shit lighting. Why anyone would do anything like tint, angry eye covers or the like, that would limit output is absolutely beyond me.

Went right over it. The LaminX is available in a few thicknesses. In the past I used the heavier (8 mil maybe?) film for head lights and fog lights. This time I used what I believe is 3 mil. Thick enough and soft enough that it will absorb all but the most brutal impact but thin enough that it covered the raised letters without issue. I'll post a picture later.

I'll probably get the Holleys, just can't decide between the 3000K and the 5700K. The 3000s did look pretty good in a video I saw. Thing is I literally drive my Jeep about 2 to 3 times per year after dark and some of those times are on the beach. It's not my daily driver. If I recall the 5700s have more lumens but I'd need to do the research again. Headlights kind of got pushed to the back burner on account of lots and lots of other stuff popping up, plus the fact that it gets driven primarily during the day.

Love my JW Speakers for the light, not a huge fan of the looks. They say they are 5000k.

For my other Jeep I’m leaning towards Holley for looks but I’d want as close as I can get to the same light so I’d probably go 5700’s.

As promised.

The LaminX over the Holley headlights..

I did nothing more than install right over the headlights. I suppose I could have poked a tiny hole to allow for release of what little air got captured behind the film, but from outside of 6" you can't see the tiny bubble around the logo.

I should have wiped the bug off before capturing the images...

Thanks, they look good. I used 3M film on my Sprinter and it was hard to fit it as they are curved in an unusual bulging way. I wonder if Lamix is more stretchable.

So....after two winters in NY, any issues with snow/freezing over? Also, do you daily your TJ?

I did an H4 upgrade last year with a KSuspension harness and the difference was huge. But being over 50, I like the idea of more illumination at night.

TJ is my daily. My eyes are getting worse as I approach mid-60's so every bit of light is welcomed.. and needed.

I have had zero issues with cold temps and freezing over. No question these lights hurt my pocket when I bought them but I am 100% happy with them. They are right in every way. I had the Toyota / Koito H4's before the Holley's. Dramatic improvement over the stock headlights and all of the two or three sets of cheap LEDs I tried prior. I just hated the warm color temperature.

I've got some other items to buy and install on Tessie first, but I'm seriously considering a set of these. As noted, my headlights are much improved with the H4 upgrade but nothing like the photos you posted of these Holley LED's. The tails and third brake lamp have all been changed over to LED for max visibility already, was concerned about freezing up and didn't want to deal with heated headlamps. Sounds like that might not be much of an issue, and you're a bit farther north than me. (y)

I put the Holley retrobrights on my TJ, and I have to say the low beam is impressive with a great cut off. The high beam is nothing to write home about though, I almost never use them. Kind of disappointed in that, and I've re-aimed them a few times just seeing if it made any difference.

That's what I thought from looking at his pictures, but mine do not look like that at all. I even questioned if I had the housings installed upside down or not aimed high enough.

Can't think of any reason yours would be any different. The Holley logo on the lens will confirm you have them installed correctly.
