What did you do to your TJ today?

Several things in the works. I’ve been trying to figure out a solution for my son needing a MTB. He’s really outgrown his Soecialized this year. One option was to give him my Kona. Another was to take an old Gary fisher Big Sur, replace the bottom bracket, repaint, and other maintenance. The bike could be his or mine. We decided to give it a whirl. He took it all apart, everything, put the pieces in ziplocks and took a few pics. We cleaned everything and decided what to replace and what to repaint, et al. Proper prep to repaint a bike frame takes time. If you’re wondering what all this has to do with my TJ, we decided to paint it Flame Red.

We’ll Add the decals when they arrive from Istanbul next month. LOL! I’ll recover the seat when I get a chance.

No pics, but yesterday was a busy one for me.

Changed the gear oil in the front differential (Royal Purple 75w140) - Actually started this Friday - had to wait for RTV to cure
Installed Polk DB522's in the dash and roll bar
Took the soft top down and installed my Spider webshade
Lengthened the bump stops on the tailgate for the spare (new Dick Cepak D-2 wheels have less backspacing than stock)
Installed new full door gaskets/rubbers (Crown)
Installed Drake billet grille inserts (black)
Vacuumed out the interior

No pics because nothing out of the ordinary in terms of the work. As for the pics of the Jeep, in a few more days I have a build thread I will update with many pics in case anyone but me is interested.

Nice! I’ve got plans to extend my snubbed next weekend. I have the same wheels and run 12.5” width tires. How did you decide to extend them? Thanks, pics would be great in here or in your upcoming build thread!

I had some hard rubber spacers in my shop. 1” thick. No idea where they came from. Also had some 2” bolts with the same thread pattern. Spacers put on with the OEM on the outside. The bottom one is perfect. But the upper 2 are still about ½” off the tire. I’m going to order some 1.5” rubber idolaters that go on the bottom of chairs and couches and put them on in place of the spacers I put on yesterday. Dreading that because the darned spare is a pain to get back on for me since I have some physical challenges.

The shop is done!(except for doors, coming in a week or two).i don’t love the color of the mansard(canopy). Dave said he has extra dark to change the front strip if it doesn’t grow on me). The strip on the roof is to help with snow and ice from falling .

Dave put up plastic until the door gets installed to help keep it warm. He’s gonna do the same on the front. And his

Very nice! I ride a Kona. And it’s great he’s into building bikes. My son was also at that age. Unfortunately he didn’t have a father to help him learn how to do things so we ended up with a lot of nice bikes in a thousand parts in my garage.

I had built a storage box for the cargo area a couple of years ago, and since I had taken the rear seat out I had built the box fairly large. Well, as time went by I began to get requests from kids and grandkids for a ride in the Jeep, and I spent more time than I wanted swapping between the box and the seat. I finally got fed up with it and cut the box down so it would fit behind the seat. As it turned out, I only had to shorten the box by about 2 inches, so I didn't even lose much storage space. I can still put everything I had before in the drawer, I just had to pack it a little better. So it is true - with an LJ, I CAN HAVE EVERYTHING!!

I cleaned the shop and made another materials list for the kayak trailer build I started last weekend.

@Chris , I have started another off road trailer build for our kayaks. When I get ready to write a post and post pics. What section do I post that in. I didn't think posting it in the TJ builds section was right. But trailer will be pulled by a TJ lol
