I Would Drive This Unimog To Work

It wouldn't fit IN my garage!

I'd probably have to raise the door all the way

Sounds about right , replace two pieces of equipment with 10 and still lose post hole capabilities . What seems crazy to me is the cost , a used 972 with 10000 hrs still costs 160,000.00. Other than having your eggs in one basket and possibly dealing with German reliability I wonder what a new fully equipped Unimog would cost ?

Every once in awhile, I look on CraigsList to see if I could afford a used tracked skid-steer. Hell the fuck no. And just glance at the loader prices... fuck me.

Quick look at some dealers show used $20k-220k. I didn't bother looking at "ready to work" units. But I can imagine $500k.

I hear what you're saying ! The cost of both of our TJ's together won't buy you a side by side today. But maybe a company is doing this to depreciate and beat back the tax man.

I know. These things are spendy. A neighbor down the street bought a full tilt, full boogie four seater last year. IIRC, it's a CanAm.
It's now up for sale. 550 miles, for sale sign reads.... $37,750.
It's far from stock though. Wheels, tires, suspension, pipes and muffler, stereo, seats and belts, heater, winch and custom wrap.
Oh, and a snow plow blade.

Sounds like a case of more dollars than sense. :)

Chain your Jeep to the rear of the Mog , you will find the answer out one centimeter at a time . ;)

Yeah he's heavier and could drag me at 10x the speed too. Does it get better traction at that speed because whenever a wheel starts to slip there's time for grass to sprout between the tread blocks?

The main thing is while your Jeep ( or mine ) would be deforming the tires and start hopping , the Mog would be crawling , not loading the suspension and keep the tires on the ground. ( with that grippy grass between the lugs ) .

Our Jeeps are geared WAAAY too high (speed). The ridiculously high idle speed doesn't help any either.

Where a Tj with a Rubi crawler , 4:1 T-case , and 5.38 axle ratio puts you at what most people say is Too low at around 150: to 1.
The freaking Unimog with a super crawler has a 4000 : to 1 ratio. The idle speed doesn't really matter if your geared low enough.
