Wildman's TJ is getting a face lift

Got a late start on the Jeep because I was visiting with my son first thing this morning.

While I was working on the front bumper my son put the heat barrier shielding on the transmission tunnel and then trimmed the floor liners to fit around the stanchions for the cage.

Plan to take it out for a road test tomorrow and see what the heat is like now through the floor board.

I'll see how this works for me with driving.

Bumper is remounted and got the winch hooked back up and all the lights hooked up also.

Then adjusted the Rock camera

Then spent way too much time looking for the heim joint for the hydro assist steering cylinder. Did find the tie rod clamp & thought I'd put the heim with it but no such luck. So finally gave up and just ordered a new one from PSC. Now that I've ordered the new heim I will of course find the missing heim.

I've ridden with generic mats in mine for years without carpet and had no real issues. Hoping you have the same experience.

If they look to have any movement, think about perhaps a stud in place of where the carpet grabber would be...

Some people are more demanding of their jeeps than others? I don't have carpet either and prefer it that way? Not that I have a v8 and need heat shielding

Pulled carpet within months of ownership - sold it in 2007.

Like a few others here on the forum, I am looking at maybe adding it back. But I really haven't been sold on that front.

I have pulled back from the bedliner based on many user feedbacks. I planned to go Line-X but pulled away from that.

I have some wear on the tub paint - but it is surprisingly durable and in many wear spots just worn to the primer - so can be painted.

It's more a issue with how my foot fits around the fuel pedal and catching my heel on the tread in the liner. I don't have an ankle to manipulate the fuel pedal with so I'm driving with my thigh. It's why I change to my sport foot when driving the Jeep. It's shorter so it fits better in the space I have.
I was discussing this with Jeff the other day and I may try to buy another accelerator bracket and cut it up and reweld it to change the angle of how the b=pedal sits not to accommodate me & my style of driving better.
I was already thinking about installing a couple of sheet metal screws to hold them in place.

The liners were kind of a impulse purchase and were sitting in the garage & my son asked about them so I was like we'll try them out since I can't return them as I'd had them for too long to return them.

If I hadn't needed the heat shielding I most likely wouldn't have been as inclined to install the liners.

I like the bed liner in the tub but you have to be careful applying it. I've had to throw out the rugs from 2 different Jeep due to them being old & nasty from getting wet and then not drying out. Due to that I didn't want to put carpet back into my Jeep. I've been known to do some water crossings that would get water into the floorboards.

FWIW, I went with BedRug throughout and WeatherTech Floor Liners throughout. It’s very nice. I don’t plan any deep water crossings, only trails that occasionally boast them.

Yep, I can't keep carpet in a jeep for long. It gets smelly and moldy, stiff with mud or both. Then it wants to rust the floor! Liners is all I'll do.

Would you want the top of the pedal rocked toward you more? So you can't slip up and off it?

Yep I know you like the BedRug. I'd be worried about how well it would handle the 200*+ floorboard temperatures? And then I'm back to if I did do a water crossing or sunk in a deep mud hole and I've got BedRug but the heat shielding under it to protect it then I've got to pull the BedRug out to clean it and try to dry the heat shielding & can't put the BedRug back in until it's all dry..

As it sits now I pull the liners out and boom I'm done...

Carpet or any other type of full floor covering hasn't ever worked for me either.

Since the pedal is solid & doesn't have the hinge like the stock TJ pedal does I think I would try moving the back down & the front (bottom of the pedal) rocked up but also lower. I can keep my foot on the pedal but if I'm wearing my regular boot and have it where my heel isn't hitting the floor first then my toy is hitting the curve of the pedal. So by rotating it some I might be able to wear a boot and manipulate the pedal easier.

Of course the other option is a left foot pedal. I've tried the hand throttle before and I didn't like it.

Speaking of a hinge, would a schoolbus, semi truck style pedal with a hinge at the floor work? Plant your heel and not need to worry about the foot sliding on the floor for throttle. Just pressure to rotate the ankle and pedal?

Yeah, that was for FarFire. As long as no water is coming in it’s a good solution. I don’t think the heat bothers it at all. It comes with a silver heat shield that you’re supposed to stick to the bottom of the front liners. I don’t think they do much. DEI outside in the tranny tunnel would do more.

The Hemi uses a electronic throttle so I can't just use any pedal. It's part of this whole learning experience with the Hemi.

I don't have an ankle to rotate even with my articulating foot. It's only got 27 degrees of total articulation.

The 200* on the floorboard is with the DEL heat shield applied.

How does the BedRug mount into the Jeep? Does it snap around the center console or do you have to pull the center console to lay it down?

Strips of adhesive backed Velcro. It’s far easier to remove the center console since installs under it a good bit.

FWIW. I also installed the Mopar floor catch in the BedRug so the WeatherTech Liners attach to it and stay in place. But the wet issue is think is a no go for you. 200* F seems really hot.

Well you just said why it's a No-Go for me period & that is having to remove the center console. I'm not pulling that thing again unless I absolutely have to.
And yes 200* is a little toasty there at the floorboard. which is why I added the heat shielding inside.

Yeah, you would need to cut down the hemi pedal so the floor hinged pedal could rest on it

While I had my sons help I had him cycling the steering while I looked at where I could fit the tierod clamp for the assist cylinder. If I had the heim for the cylinder I could have my hydro assist mounted and hooked up NOW... What's even more frustrating for me is that I the mounting tabs too but still can't find the heim... DAMN IT...

But the good news is that I'm fairly certain I've got it figured out where to put the hydro assist tabs & where the clamp will sit. I'll have to cycle the suspension once I've got things mounted so the tab will get tacked in place first. Once I've verified that everything is clearing I can burn it in and get things hooked up.
This is my last big thing to get addressed.

I am looking at installing a brake proportioning valve. Found a nice one that Wilwood makes that will replace the valve in the Jeep so it's a distribution valve & proportioning valve.

Is this valve to help with whatever is making it so you can't bleed your brakes fully?

No, I've got the brakes bled but this is to help control how the rears lock up and when.

I've verified I've got a 1 1/8" bore on my master cylinder so according to the sizing charts online I have enough for the size brakes I have.

OK I get what you're saying now. I'm not sure how well that would work and I'd want to find another pedal like I have if I was to try that.

I don't know how it would work out. I was just thinking that having the heel of a shoe "anchored" to the floor might help keep it in place and give more control. Some of those old pedals had a lip that cupped the heel. Idk if you have enough rotation in the foot to do that though?

Yes I get what you were thinking but it really wouldn't help in my situation. I'm driving by picking my foot up off the pedal and then pushing down on it. Think about like if you were in a lower leg brace and couldn't flex your ankle. How would you drive? Or a walking cast? So I'm using my thigh to raise and lower my leg off the pedal.
