Non highline fenders advantages?

This thread is full of entertainment. I have some used flat fenders because I like the look but on full stuff my tires rub the fender, I was looking into getting the GR highline fender set that they offer. I am on 315's/35s 4in lift no BL

Same here. I was hoping to get those this year but I guess I'm SOL

As the tj becomes the older platform and many parts are being discontinued or companies are closing there doors
Buy it while it’s still available , or you’ll regret it later

I’m finally getting around to installing parts I bought several years ago , I think I got these around 5 years ago during a Black Friday sale getting ready to install them today

I did buy an extra set of MCE's when Quadratec had them for $199.00 since I did bend the front passenger one quite a bit. They're down in the basement with my other spares but we'll see if I put them on now or wait. They don't crack but they will get a permanent crease in them when they're pushed against a tree.

I had them for about 2-3 years. They served a very specific purpose of both replacing the increasingly torn up factory fenders with something more forgiving in the rocks and later providing about 3/8" of needed body clearance above hoodline from the front 12" shocks. Incidently, this is one of the reasons why I understand what Metalcloak fenders do, because they are functionally almost identical.

I knew the MCEs were likely a temporary fix and was quickly convinced of it after seeing how chewed up and distorted they were becoming in the rocks and trees.

I had the rear MCE flares as well, and got tired of them falling off.

Everything got replaced last year with highlines and no flares.

My experience with flat fenders was the old poison spider tube fenders. I flopped my TJ and damaged a stock fender and stupidly went with the PS solution because I thought they made sense. They were obviously strong and more rigid then factory and looked pretty cool and I figured the additional tube armor would be a plus in the JV rocks.

What I learned was that a good smack on those transmitted all the force up into the tub, door, window area of the TJ. It resulted in some issues getting my doors to close cleanly and did tweek the window frame. I had never run a hard top on that TJ so it didn't matter to me, but in hindsight I should have either left the dented stock fender, or replaced it with another stock fender. I'd rather have a fender tweak then the rest of the Jeep get battered "out of square".

That's my $.02 from 25 years ago.

The stock fenders are part of the crumple zone for collision, it completely makes sense tube fenders would just transfer damage up to the tub

A big part of the refocus over the last few years is to reduce and minimize the physical bulk. I can't get hung up on or damage what isn't there. That was the major justification for the narrow highlines and no flares.

The cops in your area are pretty lenient when it comes to tire coverage?

Here they tend to leave jeeps alone but put the hammer down on lifted trucks. I've made a few sets of removable mud flaps for me and my friends pickups after tickets

I like to have some flair so at least it looks like I'm trying

If the cops are supposed to care about my Jeep, they have never once shown it.
