i have a 1997 jeep wrangler with 2.5 litre engine , i relaced the heater core , which went well but now my dash lights , fog lights , and toggle switches do not light up . everything else works . i have one conector that does not have a home . it has a orange and brown wire going into it . is this my problem ?

Probably missed the grounds...left and right speaker covers and check the big one on the firewall between the battery and the engine.

If your marker lights are working check fuse 12 behind the glove box. That supplies all of the dimmable lights on the dash.
If the marker lights are also out, check fuse 1 behind the glove box.
If the marker lights are also out, check fuse 1 behind the glove box.
well taking another run at it today . I have this plug without a home . Any ideas on where this belongs ? Is this my problem ?
Wire colours are black ,orange, yellow and black with a yellow stripe . The orange has 12 volts (power)

, there are two plugs available plugs for the back of the fog lamp switch . I was using the wrong one ! Bonehead !! lol

Did you check fuses 1 (if marker lights are also out) and 12 (if just the dash lights are out) behind the glove box yet?
I put my meter on the grounds on the plugs , they checked out . Is there safe way to check the cluster ? Should I replace the bulbs ?

Don't you hate when that happens.
The cluster and dash illumination wire is fed from fuse 12. The wire is orange in colour. The wire can be checked anywhere that there is illumination on the dash. HVAC illumination, fog lamp, rear defog and rear wiper switches, radio, auto selector bulb (connector is probably there even on manuals). And also at the cluster connector.
If all except the cluster is illuminated, then the issue is most likely a bad connection at the cluster connector.
If all dash lighting is out, there is no feed from fuse 12.
If the marker lights illuminate, there is power to the light switch. The output from the light switch to fuse 12 is a variable voltage. I'm not sure what the voltage output range is but I'd presume it's something like 6-12V.
