Yesterday I swapped in a new Crown OPDA as mine had developed into the "laughing monkey." Used the OEM sensor as most people suggested. Bumped the starter until the old one aligned same as the new one and made the swap. Took photos to ensure proper realignment once new unit was in. Had to pull it once because the new gasket fell off right before installing and didn't notice until it was installed and the clamp tightened so had to repeat process. Went quickly 2nd time around. Started it up and ran like a top without any "laughing monkey" noises and no codes! ️
Today took it to get inspected only to learn that on Jan 1 Texas made 3rd brake lights mandatory for inspections. I had removed the stock one because the rear window rubbed it badly. Luckily the tech informed me of this before I waited to just have him fail me for that so went back home and bought a 2" LED light at Autozone that worked well. I mounted it onto the factory spare tire bracket so it is visible thru center bore of the spare tire. Modified the factory wiring to the new light and headed back to pass inspection. Almost didn't pass due to gas gap but the tech cleaned the cap and was able to get it to pass. I'll be buying a new cap before next year's inspection.
Here's the 3rd light setup. $10 at Autozone. Had to do it quickly so it's just epoxied in place. Only needs to work until I can get around to swapping in the tons/38s and then I'll figure out new setup with the new 38" spare.
