What did you do to your TJ today?

Yesterday I swapped in a new Crown OPDA as mine had developed into the "laughing monkey." Used the OEM sensor as most people suggested. Bumped the starter until the old one aligned same as the new one and made the swap. Took photos to ensure proper realignment once new unit was in. Had to pull it once because the new gasket fell off right before installing and didn't notice until it was installed and the clamp tightened so had to repeat process. Went quickly 2nd time around. Started it up and ran like a top without any "laughing monkey" noises and no codes! ️

Today took it to get inspected only to learn that on Jan 1 Texas made 3rd brake lights mandatory for inspections. I had removed the stock one because the rear window rubbed it badly. Luckily the tech informed me of this before I waited to just have him fail me for that so went back home and bought a 2" LED light at Autozone that worked well. I mounted it onto the factory spare tire bracket so it is visible thru center bore of the spare tire. Modified the factory wiring to the new light and headed back to pass inspection. Almost didn't pass due to gas gap but the tech cleaned the cap and was able to get it to pass. I'll be buying a new cap before next year's inspection.

Here's the 3rd light setup. $10 at Autozone. Had to do it quickly so it's just epoxied in place. Only needs to work until I can get around to swapping in the tons/38s and then I'll figure out new setup with the new 38" spare.

Didn't you post a pic just a few days ago where you guys were buried in snow? Got some crazy weather in cheese land :D
Yes. It’s pretty comical if it wasn’t my reality. It was like 10 days ago, 2nd
Largest snowfall in the area. I’m just glad it’s melted and we had sun and 70s yesterday.

I tore my dash apart trying to solve a “no start” issue. Is it common to have trouble with the actuator? Replaced my lock cylinder and that’s not the problem... :(

Those actuator pins go bad quite often, in fact you'll find many threads on it. What are your no start symptoms, lights on dash but no start?

Yes, exactly. I couldn’t get any further than the lock cylinder though bc I didn’t have a T8 Security Torx. I also pulled the starter fuse and started it with a wire, so all is well on that end.

Installed my new soft top skin on the frame. Going on the Jeep today. Bought it from Extreme Terrain during a Xmas sale. $99.95 shipped. Definitely could tell the difference in material thickness compared to my factory soft top. We'll see how long it lasts.

It well last longer if you keep it out of the brush! :eusa_doh:

Finally got my new Bestop Supertop NX Twill completely installed. Couple pics below. So far I like. Had the Jeep up to 90 on the interstate yesterday to test noise. Wasn’t bad. Around town it’s dead quiet compared to the smittybilt top that was on there before. One thing I’m not sure about for anybody who has one of these. The front add on bow you stick in the grooves in the door surrounds. Mine is not even touching the top. It’s just there rattling slightly. I though it was supposed to be tight against the inside of the top?

On my last TJ with the supertop nx that crossbar was touching the section over the front , so much you could see the bar indent from the outside. You sure you have it in the right notch on the door surrounds?

On my Trek top nx, at speed (45mph) the top would slap the cross bar a bit, creating some noise. I had a foam/canvas surfboard rack cover so I strapped it around the bar, problem solved. Much quieter.

No I am not sure. I did not see any other way to put it on other than what I did. I definitely will check, but not until the top has been on there for at least a week. I'm afraid to undo the clamps on the header for fear I won't be able to get them clamped again until I undo the back window and corners, etc...
