Military Memes

Not a meme, but saw this out running in the neighborhood today:

Not sure if I could go watch this or not... I've had serious issues with some movies and documentaries in the past.

Brothers After War, the new documentary produced by veteran actor Gary Sinise and filmmaker Jake Rademacher, releases in select theaters across the country this Friday and offers a heart-wrenching, painful, and ultimately hopeful exploration of veteran life long after combat.

A sequel to the 2009 documentary Brothers at War, the new film follows the lives of several U.S. servicemen who Jake Rademacher embedded with during the Iraq War, while dutifully chronicling the many challenges they face in civilian life, from PTSD to marital troubles to depression and reconnecting with old friends.

Think I'll pass.

Think I'll pass.

I'll wait until I can watch it for free so if I need to turn it off it's not a waste of money. I can watch Band of Brothers Or Saving Private Ryan with no problems but I tired watching a movie about a group of vets who came back from Iraq and tried dealing with the VA & all their BS. I made it about 15 minutes into it and turned it off. Or movies that delt with parts of Iraq can trigger shit for me. So now I don't try.

Edit: I'll add I've got a lot of respect for Gary Sinise and what he's done for the veteran community so I'll at least give it a try.

Pretty much the same. I'll watch at home eventually when I know I'm in a good headspace.
Nightmares and flashbacks are nearly nonexistent for me now.
I like to keep it that way.

I'd been doing pretty good for a while and then here in the last 9-12 months I've started having nightmares and flashbacks again. I don't go out enough in public to know if I'll have other issues yet. Can't figure out what's caused things to start up again.

Sorry to hear that brother. Sometimes it comes in waves.
Get yourself to a shrink or talk to someone and root out the cause.
You deserve some peace.

You have got to be kidding me.

I got my first one while in the IRR. Way to waste $10 a year.

You can always tell a hockey fan, but you can't tell them much.

I guess if you DON'T have any other medals... You got more than one??? I think I only ever got one but who knows.. Better than the rainbow ribbon...

You should be wearing two - Desert Storm and GWoT were seperate award windows. IIRC, it's a star.

But it's been almost 20 years (18 to be exact), and I've drank a lot since then.

Edit: From wikipedia - As the NDSM has been awarded to all military personnel during four wartime periods spanning 43 years, it has millions of recipients and is the most widely awarded medal in the history of the United States Armed Forces.

Yeah, I'd want that on my plate

After I got out I sort of lost interest in my medals... The only one I wanted they won't give me... So FUCK IT....

I'm pretty sure they had that out after finishing boot camp.

Could anything scream of more desperation than a national defense service medal plate??

THANK ME FOR MY SERVICE

On this date in 1991 - Operation Desert Storm came to a conclusion as President George H.W. Bush declared in a White House address that “Kuwait is liberated, Iraq’s army is defeated,” and announced that the allies would suspend combat operations at midnight, Eastern time. Which would be seen as 28 Feb in theater...
