I don't know what color it was supposed to be. The pictures make it look more red that in person - in daylight its very fuchsia color.
I've always hated those wheels. Something about the smooth barrel and rounded spokes-to-barrel interface is just eww to me.

Car was bought from someone making, uh I'm not really sure, possibly it was headed to being hydraulic suspension low-rider? Lights were installed in the wheel wells and the rear taillights were shaved (the picture is after I replaced the tail light lenses with correct reproductions), and of course THAT color.
Who the hell would shave those lights? How did you un-shave them? Or was it just some of those ugly flat lenses?

Actually we out at our farm and needed to pull out some bushes. I showed him how to fo it and he pulled the next 7 by himself. He was solo in the drivers sest and i was in yhe passenger.
I agree, they look thin to me, fragile. With that flat smooth barrel, it makes them look like they're trying to be deeper than they are, polished posers. I also tend to shy away from high polish. But I couldn't get beyond the tiny weenies to comment previously. Those sidewalls are criminally small for the car and stance, large (and unnecessary) wheel gap on the front.

Saw one quite similar in Salida last week. Might have been a ‘66 but was a step side 4x4 with real patina.
Hey, @chili_pepper, remember these? What are your thoughts on 'em? I hated 'em when they first came out, but now that some time has passed, and my judgement is in full decline, I can sorta see where they might be fun to scoot around in, so long as nobody sees you.

I have always like the creativity of them. If they weren't so proned to mechanical problems I would probably enjoy zipping around in one.

There were mixed feelings on them when they came out, even from people who already owned the brand. I though they looked okay but they were based on the 2nd gen cars (so sporting a snail in S config) and I thought less usable overall than the standard 2 door hatch. There was no weight savings, you got a larger trunk but lost two seats (usability debatable) and the hatch space...unless you got the Roadster, in which case I think you lost the larger trunk as well and probably gained some pounds for the soft top mechanism.
The MINI brand caught flak from the beginning as some critics felt the hatch was too large (~5'x5'x12') for the amount of usable space inside already, the introduction of the coupe had many scratching their heads more. Personally, owning a 1st gen hatch for over 18 years, I never found them to be that lacking in interior space and the idea that, with all of the safety regs nowadays, anyone would ever be able to come close to the original BMC Mini (~4'x4'x10'). The classic BMC Mini is a master class in automotive packaging that even the Japanese must concede is brilliant (and quite possibly inspiration for their kei cars). But you wouldn't want to get hit in one...
All that said, I'm betting they're quite fun to chuck around and it beats the hell out of a Smart Fortwo!
Have you ever owned a BMW MINI of any generation?
I ask as I've heard this a lot, typically from people who've never owned one but "heard they're prone to issues". I've serviced my 2004 MINI Cooper S exclusively since purchasing in 2008 and I've experience no issues in owning and driving it (often quite hard, but with sympathy). I've also known many people who've owned both 1st and 2nd gen cars without any issues, including one that was daily driven and tracked regularly. Mine's tied for first place as the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned (the other being an '82 VW Rabbit). Real world issues are typically a result of poor maintenance, improper servicing or abuse (or buying one with an auto gearbox, esp. the CVT).

I have not owned one. I have friends who did/do. I based my comment on their experience with them and not internet hear-se. One of my friends has a JCW model that seems to be in the shop on a regular basis. She absolutely loves the car and tolerates it's quirks.
Grand champion in the "blast to drive" category. I mean, it's essentially a gokart for adults. The LJ is second, a blast but different. While not readily apparent, the interior spaces of the two share a similar feel and plenty of headroom, which at 6' 5", I appreciate.
Curiosity question, how much of modern Minis are BMW? Is it like a Honda/Acura or Toyota/Lexus type setup, or is Mini a separate thing under the BMW umbrella? I ask because I have a very poor opinion of BMW vehicles made over the last 20ish years. Not a vehicle brand I'll buy.
I've always wondered that , is it a GM / SAAB thing or more like a VW / Lamborghini thing ?
