Technically your LJ is really a TJ Unlimited

Who the hell knows what they were thinking. They completely changed the console and shifter floor plate in 05-06 even though it was the last 2 years of production. Very bizarre.

That's why I thought maybe it was a tooling issue or something. Otherwise it doesn't make much sense to change some of those things, unless they were addressing known design flaws.

TJU makes a lot more sense than LJ, but too late now...

If the JK Unlimited crowd had followed suit with the TJ Unlimited bunch, they'd be calling theirs an LK.

I wasn't aware Canada even got the Unlimited models. I just learned something new.

When I was installing my skid plates, I noticed that the fuel tank, fuel tank skid, and transfer case skid all say "Made in Canada". It would seem that there's probably a fair share of stock TJ parts that were produced in Canada, eh?

Yep we got lots of them it seems.

Chrysler has several large manufacturing facilities in Ontario (less now then they used to for sure though) I was doing a service call at the casting plant and noticed in a case of stuff they've made there, the tail housing for the 42rle. Thought it was nifty to see there as a brand new part.

Wrangler is owned by GM up here, although the copyright may be expired or something as they now refer to the jk and JL as "wrangler JK" or "wrangler JL".

We get some interesting Canada only products like the GM Beaumont.

There must have been a time
when we could have said no.

Only if the body tag in the JKU says LK similar to the way the TJ Unlimited tags are (often?) stamped. I strongly suspect this is where we got the unofficial LJ designation.

Do JKs have that tag anywhere? Is JKU even official? If not, then I would suggest that the slang terms for the JKs arose completely independently of how the TJ's came to be. It had different initial fan base with little connection to the TJ history. Their colloquial vernacular arguably makes more sense.

Did that have to change to accommodate the NSG370? What really sucks about the 05/06 is console is how much more expensive parts are for it, like the inner shifter boot and the stupid bezel around the top boot. Mine bezel has been broken for years and can't stomach paying the $59 they want for a cheap piece of plastic.

I'd tend to ignore another subforum myself, as I don't drive one...there aren't that many things, really - length, rear drive shaft, top, etc., that aren't identical to a TJ. But, if deemed appropriate, so be it...

I feel the same way, I'm in a LJ (yes its an LJ dammit), but prefer to just keep the TJ/LJs all playing together.

Let's not do an LJ subforum. Chris would probably give it a name like "TJU General Discussion." No self respecting LJ owner would ever visit. ;)
And do we really need another echo chamber for guys to brag to each other about their extra length? I can only imagine that it gets boring without an audience of normal guys forced to politely follow along. :)

We won’t be doing an LJ sub-forum. More sub-forums just adds more clutter and confusion. I don’t want to end up like the other forum, where they have so many sub-forums it’s confusing where to even post!

You are right @Chris and you mention your sub-forums control before that make total sense.
I just want to gave you some hard time, I'm part of the ones that just visit one forum and ignore the sub forums so I will probably not will be visiting and posting on it either.

I love the "New Posts" option at the top of the forums. Seems I rarely even enter sub forum on purpose, just track where the new posts are and go from there. This is the easiest of the Jeep forums to negotiate, I tend to ignore the others now, unless I'm digging for a tech article that doesn't exist here yet.

Hey @Chris,
Not going to argument if LJ is an official designation or not but, lately we have been seen more LJer's joining the forum, I think is time to have an LJ sub forum. What do you think?
Oh well in that case, why not an X, Sport, Rubicon, RME, Willys, and an SE subforum? Or, how about we just all know and understand that they are TJ's and with the exception of a few longer parts, are in fact identical to all other TJ's of the same genre because they are in fact, a TJ and if you cut all of them off right behind the door opening, you simply can't tell the difference.
