Refreshed my TJ!

I have over 20 hours into the exterior myself. I replaced the fender flares for about $100. Also bought a big bottle of "solution finish" for all other black trim.

When I took it to my detailer I had most trim off of it so I had a chance to clean and refurbish them. This also means he had had an easier time correcting the paint.
I found replacing the flares was a better way to go as well. 100 bucks and less time to install than to prep and paint the stock ones, plus they look better, was a no-brainer. I would have to "paint correct" after every hunting season since I have the tendency to push it through all kinds of brush and crap :D

I know it's really hard to tell from photos, as opposed to up close and personal, but the 'after' paint looks like a showroom floor model.

I imagine this is what it looked like when it rolled of the factory paint booth. Besides a few rock chips, the paint has no swirls or damage whatsoever. I even had to take a pic of the hood at a stop light because I was that impressed.

I hate to admit it but doing the fenders probably took me over 6 hours to remove and install them.

I'm looking at getting my M3's paint corrected once I have the cash (maybe my tax refund) - it's not cheap and needs to be done by a certified professional (so you know it's done well/right). Means I'm going to have to take it to Columbus.

Price-wise, you see single-stage corrections in the $500-$800 range and multi-stage at least double that.

Trolling? Drunk posting? Know something that nobody else does? Or just being a Richard?
No sir, I don’t know what trolling is and I don’t drink very often. It just seemed like he was going to start selling some amazing product. The short of it is I was just trying to get a laugh. If anybody got their feelings hurt you have my sincere apologies. Sorry guys and girls.

If you were commenting for a laugh then its technically trolling lol But it's all good. No offense taken :) I sometimes catch it and just move on like I did. I just thought you were genuinely curious so I took the time to respond with details.

If I came off as trying to sell something maybe it's because I am really happy how my Wrangler turned out. It is the best money I have ever spent on a "mod".

Yeah on the wrangler a multi stage paint correction is needed due to the damage it had and hard clear coat.

I am happy to say I did not pay the prices on those links even though I did get quoted that by other detailers before finding the one I used.

I don't know if I will spend $500-$800 to make my rig shinny.
Actually I am planning to DIY paint my black TJ into a complete flat matte black to make it look old vintage military rig.

Totally understandable. I actually thought I was going to get more hate with my post because "it's a Wrangler its supposed to be dirty". Some folks go more the utilitarian look which is awesome too.

I myself like the look of nice clean paint like the wranglers Davis Autosports sells

Before.

The day I bought it a few weeks ago. It's a one owner 99 TJ Sport 4.0 with a factory Dana 44 and with 52k miles in Chille Pepper Red Pearl. The previous owner was a sweet 87 year old man that had meticulous maintenance records but it appears he was not so carefull with the paint. There was extensive damage that the color appeared matte in some lighting.

After paint correction.

I love how the color changes in different lighting now that the metallic flakes are showing!

Cutting paint and correcting it always makes it look amazing. Great job!

Wow, looks new again! What do you mean by "paint correction?"
ttig it down with polish and removing all the damage in the paint. Damage being light surface scratches from washing it and touching it.

If you have an air compressor, a 1/4" drive air ratchet and a wobble extension makes quick work of them. As long as nothing is corroded/rusted, that is.

He wasn't pushing anything that I see. He used a pro for the paint correction, didn't list a name, price, or otherwise. He did mention using some protectant for his flares but was not pushing it either.

It's pretty much removing paint imperfections via mechanical means. Wet sanding, polishing with abrasive compound, and then polishing it up. It's very labor intensive. I a paid a pro to do mine. I want to learn one day but right now I live in a apartment so there's no way yet lol
