JL/JT Axle Swap Details

For my JL rear without street on a triangulated 4 link, I’ve had to notch the rear footwell for the upper arms to stuff into. My JL front without a truss or stretch hasnt hit the frame but it has hit the exhaust bend and self clearanced much more than I’d like, even with hydro bump cans and measuring clear on the rack.

I see in your JL brake post your not running hi steer. I think that’s where the frame notch will come into play for me. Did you get any stretch from the front on yours?

Question for anyone that's installed the Artec Apex rear truss on a JLR axle... any issues with getting the locker plug in and out? Is it ok as it is or did you have to make some more clearance to get the plug in and out?

I'll get a picture when I get to the house tonight. but here is one from their site... I'm thinking the opening is smaller on the one I have...

I’ll look when I get home but my artec truss seems have enough room to remove/install the plug.

Rick, Picked up some parts at the shop yesterday and took some shots of the 392s on our buddy’s LJ. Just in case something helps.

What size diameter did your buddy go with for upper and lower control arms? Trying to get an idea before I purchase. TMRcustoms has a nice chart that states if vehicle under 5k, go with 2.25" lowers and 2" uppers but I think I can get away with going smaller. My TJ weighed 4200 before I pulled the axles. @Wildman, I know you are using the Savvy's mid-arm, but are you also using the control arms from the mid-arm kit?

My rear arms are Savvy for an LJ since I was stretching the rear & my front arms are WOD made arms 2.75" longer for the front stretch. I'd have to go back and look at my orders to tell you what size I have but I think it's 2.5" lower and 2" upper but am not 100% sure.

Edit: Nope lowers are 2.25" & upper is 1.75" Just checked.

He’s running the RPM kit, if I remember it’s listed on the site. For front track he’s having them machine a straight that matches their frame side mount.

Let me know if it’s not listed and I’ll ask him.

Alright, here's what I got so far. I've been struggling hard to get the axle equal and lined up on all sides to start cycling the 4 link. But I decided to follow Ian's technique from his YouTube vid with securing the axle. As it sits, I am at about 6.5" stretch in the rear to keep the tires within the fenders without cutting the back. Additionally, after tacking and trimming the upper Artec mounts I have about 1/2" of clearance before it hits the tub. Also removed most of the rear crossmember and will just make my own as most do, as it just kept getting in the way. Starting at ride height, my preliminary up travel at full bump is about 6-6.5" but won't know until I start cycling.

- My goal is 22" at ride height. with at least 6-7" of up travel.

I am now playing with how far forward I want to mount the GR frame mounts. Playing with the 4 link calculator, if I can get around 32/33" for control arms then that puts me right around 97% antisquat with all the other factors as well. With that being said I will most likely have to sacrifice ground clearance on the axle lower mounts to keep the lowers out of the frame. As of now I have the mounts parallel to the ground and dropping it an inch with 2" diameter lowers should get me the clearance I need.

Control arms ordered from wide open design to solidify placement and start burning in mounts. Measured for 14” ORI’s down travel to clear the opposite side wheel well. I’m quite happy with where I’m at with the 4 link. Need to clear the tub with upper’s a bit but otherwise it’s coming alinf
