JL/JT Axle Swap Details

Following this because I want to swap in JL axles as well, I think when I do it as well I will also do a 3 / 4l link setup and with coilovers.
Eyyyup... I may find a way to squeeze them in... but for now not counting on it... pretty expensive stuff!

One of my buddies at the shop has his RPM 3/4 link done with JLs, I'll try to take some pictures when I pick up the axles. I think he used Artec trusses, but everything frame side is RPM.

I'm going with the Artech truss, I'd like to see the pictures for sure!

Artec is a shortcut, maybe it saves you a little time but gives up a lot of function that you could make perfect if you did it right. Look at the spring location, trackbar location and drop pitman arm from their website. You’re doing a custom axle swap, you can make it perfect *for your application* maybe even less cost. Trackbar setup, up-travel, shock mounting, steering stops, hydro assist, these all need to be tuned.

Is the truss absolutely needed or is the JL Rubicon axles strong enough to just mount brackets where you need them? I have a set of 2024 392 Rubicon axles that I am going to swap but am not happy with any of the trusses offered because they seem to sacrifice proper geometry for ease of installation.

I am running 37in tires.

Depends on the 3 link.

The Driver UCA axle side is cast into the JL pumpkin.

I think the only passenger side UCA 3 link I saw was RPM, the others need to either reuse the stock built in UCA joint on the pumpkin, or truss for a joint receiver bracket on the axle right above the pumpkin.

In order to triangulate uppers on the rear, you have to put both joint brackets above the pumpkin, so it forces you into a truss.

Here's the RPM where you can see the passenger side front UCA tower:

Here's the Barnes and GR Legend with Driver side UCA joint reuse, assuming it will work with the JL location:

Yeah the rear is easy. My issue is the front coil bucket and track bar mount fighting for space. I would like to install the axles and keep the coil springs for now, until I can afford to redo suspension.

End goal is genright legend kit with a 5in rear stretch and a 2-3 in front stretch and coilovers.

I just ordered the GR kit, for right now plans are to keep coils / shocks... but once I get into the build... I may decide I just have to bite the bullet and go coil overs... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$... :-S

... and it begins! I got my front axle tore down this weekend in between all the holiday stuff... Should be able to start cutting all the brackets off this week.

The front "Max Tow" axle I got from a local Jeep buddy pretty cheap, and I picked up an OEM Rubicon locker from FB market place, and plan to regear to 4:88 to match my rear Rubi axle. Getting it ready for the JL to TJ Artec truss.

I also just ordered the C gussets, wich means I'll be putting some heat into the C's. Since the OEM ball joints have plastic in them I'll go ahead and replace them "while I'm in there"... I'd love to do the deletes but just not in the budget for this go around. Any JL/JT owners in here have any experience / recommendations?

I have the Dynatrac's in the JL, but basically any rebuildable joint is in the same ballpark price wise as the deletes. IIRC there is only one product priced between that group and the OE Dana's and it's the TF ones: https://teraflex.com/jl-jt-dana-30-44-hd-ball-joint-kit-w-out-knurl-2-upper-2-lower.html

American Iron was just having their Black Friday sale for their ball joint deletes.

Unfortunately I'm at the point in this winter project upgrade that a $300 difference is getting to be a bridge too far! lol.. For this go around I'll just have to put "normal" ball joints in. I'm still working on buying my RCV's... Just Empty EVERY Pocket! lol

Yep I'm very familiar with that part of things.

Sames. I also can hardly keep track how many times I’ve redone the suspension because it’s always in steps, I think I’m missing one redo but can’t recall. 1. Jk swap front and rear. 2. Outboarded rear shocks. 3.Midarm front with CO. 4. Midarm back with coils / shocks. 5. Coilovers rear. 6. Tuned COs front.

OP you are going down my path. At least it’ll keep you busy for years :)

I'm already looking at what I might/want to do next...
