JL/JT Axle Swap Details

Awesome thread. Good to see more TJ’s going with JL/JT axles. Currently doing the same, well waiting for the front axle but all my Black Friday parts are starting to show up. Going with ORI’s, 4 link rear and 3 link front. I have followed kmason’s build and will review it again before I start tearing down and building at the end of the month. It has some decent info in the thread if anyone decides to go coilovers with JL axles.

No resi on the ORIs? Was that for cost savings or you don’t think they’d be useful ?

I don’t think they’d be useful for me. Seems like they are more geared toward going fast and that’s not something I do with my TJ.

Niiice! Do you have a build thread? I tried searching for JL axle swap and Kmason but didn't come up, do you have a link for his as well?

lol, hardest part for me is getting started and then putting into a post all the details that build threads usually consist of. Seems overwhelming sometimes. Even when I read build threads I get overwhelmed and have to put my phone or laptop down

Idk what you’re talking about….im going to sit in your garage and just record you the whole time while you build it out. Also to make sure you’re done before the PA trip. lol

I have this theory concerning my "projects"... at least it seems this way for me... If I can just get out and turn the first bolt/nut... something clicks inside of me and then I have to see it complete... so as long as I can motivate myself to turn that first bolt... it's on like Donkey Kong!

Then it's a matter of remembering to document it... in between searching for that tool I just had in my hand...

Ah the ole where did the tool I had in my hand 2 seconds ago go? Lol

Gettin' stuff done... lots of cuttin' and a grindin' and a grindin' and cuttin'.

One thing I did learn this weekend, the Artec JL JT to TJ swap truss doesn't keep the forward 1-1/2 spring perch location that the stock JL axles have (centered on the axle). It put's it back in the stock TJ location (1-1/2" forward of the axle center) which was a huge disappointment to me. I'm going to give them a call today and see if they have a coil perch bracket that centers it.

@Rickstar321, do you plan to do a 3 link front on the axle? If so, do you plan to use the upper casting on the front pumpkin? I’m kind of thinking this will be the route I’ll go. And this showed up today! Pretty excited to unbox it tomorrow.

Yup, just ordered these. I figure it will be stronger and more cost effective than buying/fabing some type of over the diff truss.
