I'm looking to design a rear bumper for my samurai, and looking for some inspiration. Also thinking about the rear bumper on my TJ as well and looking to replace it with one that has a tire carrier.

Bonus points if you have a tire carrier! I wanna see what you peeps have came up with!

Slap them up here!

I ditched my tire carrier rear bumper last year in favor of a high clearance bumper from @Fluxor combined with an Exogate to strengthen the tailgate.

I can't speak for all tire carrier bumpers, but the shittybilt version I had was costing me quite a bit from a departure angle standpoint.

With the tire carrier bumper:

Built ours to help with departure angle . Brought it in towards the body about 2 inches . The tow points are connected directly to the frame .

Designed and temporarily bolted together with 1/4" hardware by yours truly - then taken to the local welding shop as I haven't run a bead since about 1987, it would be beyond ugly!

Old skool from 5" channel - its a "little bit" closer than stock, and front-to-back narrower, so departure angle is slightly improved:

Thanks for the pics guys! This is what I ended up coming up with. The stock Samurai bumper has plastic covers that wrap up the body to the wheel arches, and I do like the profile on the stuff you posted @Fluxor So going with a similar shape. Turns out I was able to tuck it in well enough that it greatly improves the departure over stock. Still need to figure out brake lights and decide what I want for recovery points and possibly a receiver but the overall shape is done for the most part. To mount it I've got some brackets that weld into the frame so its extra solid. The stock samurai bumper is only attached to the body via some small brackets so there is no mounting provisions on the frame for a solid bumper. Still debating if I want to add in a plate to tie in to the crash bar mounts but so far, i'm liking it.
