My review of 5.13 gears with 33's and 42RLE

FWIW, I just swapped tires. I took off the five old Falken WildPeak 33's with 70k miles on them and a little under 10mm of tread left and sold them for $550 on MP. Crazy but there was no less than a dozen people who wanted them. You could be on those 33's sooner than you think.

Yeah, I am seeing the Falken 285 70 17s for $300

Got the jeep back last night and will be slowly breaking the gears in over the next few evenings, then body/motor lift. Then may make the trip to get new rubber.

I also need to boot up my HPTuner and adjust the speedometer.

Edit: and then install the savvy cable shifter, the emu springs, rancho shocks, all of which have been waiting patiently in the garage.

And holy F I need to do something with my seat, as it has been creaking like nuts since I put the spacers on it.

I have 31s, 42RLE and standard gearing. I really need to change it, but can't justify the money right now. I can get to 70 but going up any kind of incline is a struggle. I only ever drive in 2WD so I could always just get rear diff done but that's a really really horrible idea

What is standard gearing? 3.08 or 3.73? If you have an 05-06 you can improve the drivability with HPTuners by adjusting the shift strategy.

Mines an 06, and I can just put my foot down to get the revs up...but it's not ideal

The tune helps, but even with it there is a point of no return that when your RPMs and speed drop on an incline, no amount of tromping will help.

Ditch the spacers. Get the Summit seat cushion and sell the spacers.

I concur those summit seats will raise your butt up a couple inches. They're awesome.

These are the seat jackets, only wanted the front tilted up, being 6'4".

I'm 6'4 as well. If you only tilt the front up, you'll likely be banging the back of your head into the roll bar.

When the front is tilted up only me knees are elevated, not my torso.

In any event I have seat bushings on the way, because what's yet another jeep project in the grand scheme of things?

Dang all this gear talk and now I gotta do mine.....I can't leave anything alone! My LJ with auto trans and 373's has Cooper ST Maxx tires that are: 29.5 by 9.8 wide 245/75/16's. Sooo it looks like I will be adding 488 gears soon.

I'm 6'4 as well. If you only tilt the front up, you'll likely be banging the back of your head into the roll bar.

I'm 6'2" and i put the seat jackers in mine. The extra height at the front of the seat added thigh support and made it so I didn't need to have the seat as far back to keep my legs from flopping around with no support. I have since added them to my bronco as well and am very happy with the result.

Update:
Really appreciating the regear. My RPMs are pretty close to the OP's when on the flat highway, and on the steep grades and I pop the OD off I can easily retain 65MPH at about 3300RPM. Haven't tried the trailer yet, but got the new springs on the back (HD Emus) and they feel great even without the added load. Was afraid it would be too stiff.

Spring rates are so close within TJ parameters you couldn’t tell a difference all else being equal. That’s why we harp on shocks.

The new Ranchos are helping the ride a bit as well.
I need to get back underneath and do the front end springs/shocks now. They currently sit longingly in the garage waiting for their turn.
