32RH Transmission Swap From AX-15

I don't remember the 32rh running hot like the 42rle, but with 513 gears it may! 🤣

From my understanding, the 32rh is not as prone to heat, but it would still benefit from one when crawling. Not a setrab-level of a cooler, but something.

A couple other questions
  1. I am not too familiar with the NSS sensor, is it truly needed? Or does not having one simply mean it can be started in any gear?
  2. The torque convertor solenoid--hows the shape of the one you have, in? I recall those in a few threads having wires damaged.
Looking forward to this thread! I have most of the transmission parts to get mine up and running.

I am pretty sure that it just keeps you from shifting into gear without the key turned. E.g. Mike could toss his heap into gear and it rolls off a cliff, even without the key in it.

I thought that was the interlock?

If the 32 responds to gearing like the 42 does, it would run cooler with deeper gears because it is working less hard to push the tires.

Mechanical advantage.

I guess I was thinking at 70mph! What would that look like with RPM's at @3500? What effect, if any, would that have on transmission temps?

Will you have a youtube video of this install? You always have great videos but I'm sure it requires a ton of time.

Some offroaders like to carry spare axle shafts, @hosejockey61 will be able to bring a spare transmission.:p

on 3.55's (yeah sue me) with 33's and a hayden cooler in front of my rad, I never get over 170F in the TX heat. I was in the 200's on really hot days prior to adding the cooler.

The NSS also turns your backup lights on in reverse, with the 32 anyway. And yeah, the wires on the solenoids like to get chewed on. I replaced mine when I rebuilt my 32.

All I gotta say is my budies in the rubi's spin all 4 of their wheels going over obstacles, my 3.55 open diffs never have trouble.

If it's similar or the same as the late model, I can scan mine and 3d print you one as a backup option.

I don't know if the late model list I have carries over but in case they do:
  1. Crank bushing that swaps in where the pilot bearing (and its bushing) go.
  2. Steering column housing is different
  3. Different starter (and bolts)

Ok, I just updated the thread (in red) with correct information in some areas. I will address some other issues once I reply to all the bullshit.

Bushing isn't needed for the 32rh. The starter is the same for 97-02. The steering column clam shell cover is different for the interlock cable.

Good questions... the trans mount is 2 pieces. The rubber bit that bolts through the skid, and then the exhaust hangar plate thing that goes between the transmission mount and the case. There's a hole on the passenger side that the exhaust support bar slides through. No clue how that works on a manual.

You mean the transmission breather? You can either weld the pump vent closed or tap it and thread a plug in. Then drill & tap a hole on the top aft of where the kickdown band is, so like 2-3" behind the "shoulder" on top of the case. I'm 99% certain that every post about it puking fluid after the breather relo is because there was a low point in the new breather hose that allowed fluid to collect. Mine puked until I fixed that, hasn't happened in going on 4 years.

The transmission bracket is actually one piece. The rubber transmission mount is the same through all years.

I will and yes they are time consuming. I just might bring s spare tranny as this will be new :p

I'm curious on this as I replaced this with a new one and my back up lights still didn't work with my AX-15. Haven't had time to chase down wiring.

I am excited to see what all it takes! Let me know if you could use some extra hands :)
