32RH Transmission Swap From AX-15

Does the Gladiator have that little extra battery under the main starting Battery? My dad's JL had a similar issue and it ended up being that little guy...something to do with the auto start/stop.

This is a 32rh thread. Take that Gladiator trash somewhere else! 😂🤣

And yes, I already replaced it. 😁

Bad news here in the garage.

Making great progress with little things. Got the seal extender in and was ready to install the deep pan so I could get it back under the Jeep today.

Well, when junkyards take in cars they have to drain the fluids. Instead of just removing the plug, the pop a hold in the pans. Well, they popped a hole right through the transfer plate part of the valve body 🤬🤬🤬🤬.

So lucky me, I have a spare tranny in the corner. I pick it up and bring it over to the table and friggen tripped on the way! I dropped it and broke the bell housing🤦🤡🤦🤡🤦. You can't make this shit up. Not a huge deal because my intent was to just remove the valve body and put it in the one I have going already. I was hoping I could just remove and replace the transfer plate portion but that's a no go due to all the small parts and ball bearings in between the layers.

I had to take a break and step away, so I went out and mowed the yard to cool down. 😵‍💫

For those of us who haven't been on the phone talking about this.... the semicircle hole is the pickup. The filter is held there with 3 screws, which apparently holds it tight enough to the valvebody to "seal" and allows the pump to suck fluid through the filter and through that opening. With a 2nd opening, my first guess would be that it would be much harder to draw fluid in with twice as much surface area to pull across. The filter itself doesn't really have a "sealing surface" which is interesting anyway.

For normal operation it might not matter, as that hole is going to be submerged, but I don't know for certain, and if you're on an incline it might end up sucking air. The best option is to just replace with a non-obliterated VB.

Back in the saddle! Successful rocket surgery completed! Having never been on the inside of a transmission before, it's very intimidating to say the least. I'm usually one who when I do it the first time then I'm good after that. And that's no difference here. The valve body came out easily with the help of Craig to get me through things that weren't going the way I thought this should be going. I don't recommend learning the hard way, it's pretty stressful 🤣😂🤣😂.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program....

But a new challenge has presented itself. I talked to Blaine about this awhile back and I knew it could pose an issue. He has mentioned a pig tail, which I appear to not have. I'm not even sure if that's what's missing.

The red/blue connector is what's on the transmission. The others are what's on my wiring harness.

The green one with two ports might be the 4wd light, at least that's my best recollection as I believe I have that same plug.

I hate when pictures don't load in the order I want them too. The pic with the blue and round connector- the blue one goes to the t-case. The blue one with the two prong connector went to the reverse light switch.

What year is the harness you're using?

This is the electrical stuff you have coming off the tranny/t-case:
* NSS switch, which also is the reverse indicator
* TCC lockup
* 4WD indicator
* speedo sensor
* crank position sensor

  • the circular plug with 4 pins looks like an O2 sensor plug, but those changed to rectangular somewhere along the way
  • The green one with just 2 pins is the 4WD indicator, goes on top of the t-case
  • One of the rectangular ones with the offset pins is C154, which is mostly the NSS, but I haven't traced that in a while. I don't think the TCC is part of that bundle, I'll have to trace it.
  • The NSS looks to be a 3 pin connector on later years, its way different on the 97 so idk.
  • the 4 pin connector is the speedo sensor

My Jeep is a '98. The Jeeps I pulled these off of were '98-'99. I'm not sure which one this tranny was pulled from.
