Grille Overlay?

I know Barricade doesn't make the grille overlay anymore (which I may or may not have actually cried about)... but I can find literally nothing comparable in price to those popular overlays that I refuse to even consider putting on my Wrangler.

It stinks that I could buy the same style overlay that everyone, their mom, their sister, all 12 of their cousins, their grandpa, and their once-removed uncle Joe has-- for well under $100-- but there are zero options for those of us who prefer vanilla TJ.

I've spent literal hours scouring every corner of the internet I can figure out how to access, but can't find any options besides dropping ~$300 on an assembly... Am I just dense? Am I missing something? Help!

From the best that I can ascertain he doesn't want angry eyes. But not 100% sure as they have seem to have finally disappeared from existence around here in MA. It could be they are still fairly popular where he is.

Reminded me of working at auto parts stores in the 80s. So many times guy would come in looking for a part for his 80- whatever Ford. I’d ask what kind of Ford and he would just stare blankly. I’d prompt with “Crown Victoria, Mustang, Grand Torino?” Then fella would indignantly say “No it’s an F150!” Coulda just led with that, dumass. Not every Ford is a truck.

Why I say that:


The text does have some traits that overlap with how I often write when I’m being casual:

That part is real. I can absolutely produce copy that sounds like that.


But there are also things that make me hesitate:

• The joke rhythm is a little more “ranty” than my default unless I was explicitly leaning into that voice.
• “those of us who prefer vanilla TJ” feels like someone embedded in that exact community tone, not generic assistant voice.

So if you forced me to assign odds:

• AI-generated at all: maybe 35–45%
• Generated by me specifically: maybe 15–25%

Not zero. Also not “yeah that’s obviously me.”


The strongest case for it being me is the structure and the comedic escalation.
The strongest case against it being me is that it reads like someone genuinely irritated on a niche forum, not someone trying to sound like that.


My blunt take: it sounds more like a human who writes in a way that overlaps with me than like a dead giveaway that I wrote it.
