DIY Beadlocks

I haven't, just remember anti coning rings ~$80 and hardware ~$100. May make it a little more tempting to spring for Raceline steelies that are on sale right now at about $250 a pop.

I had Humvee rims that I welded in new centers changing the BS to 4.25" and the BP from 8x6.5 to 5x5.5

They turned out pretty nice looking after powder coating

The Stazworks are nicer and more like the Hutchinson rims than the Humvee rims are like.

That is the one drawback to steel wheels....

I have coldrolled rings on the Stazworks wheels which are supposed to help not bent the lip of the rim.

They came with a set of tires I bought from marketplace. The PO welded them. I can’t comment on the building them. Going down to really low pressure was ok and they looked cool. Other than that they were heavy. I cut a sidewall with them on and I sold them a few months ago.

Motobilt sales anti-coning rings and centering plates that should help with that. But, tough wheeling can certainly take its toll.

I appreciate the information. I'll let you guys know on my build thread what I end up choosing.

I will say this, the Allied steel beadlocks I had weighed a LOT less than the Humvee dual beadlocks or the DIY beadlocks I've seen....

These coldrold rings are round steel that is added to the lips of the rims. After bending the lips on my Humvee rims I knew I wanted added protection for the lips of the rims. I thought I had a picture of the edges of the rims but can't find it.... I'll see if I can't get one....

Years ago some companies sold bent rebar to do this with in different rim sizes.

The rock rings do basically the same thing but IMO they make it harder to get to the valve stem & hold water/mud/rocks inside the wheel themselves.

It's a constant battle of trade-offs when choosing.
