If only Rancho could make the RS5000X look like the Fox shocks (better looking cosmetically I mean), then you'd have a killer shock! But for now, function is more important than form!

You sure you want to come back...?Glad to hear good stuff about these shocks. Been sitting in my room for the past weeks waiting to be put on with the new lift when I get back from Canada

I’m looking at a Jeep with a 4” rough country lift and shocks and rides very ‘rough’ lol....if I get it and switch the shocks to the Ranchero 5000x I’m sure it will ride better over bumps, but will it make a difference in something like body roll around turns where it may have more body roll as compared to the stiff rough country shocks?
Yes, the garbage quality Rough Country shocks are what causes it to ride so poor. Replace them with Rancho RS5000X shocks and lower your tire pressure to 26 psi (what it should be at), and then you'll have a totally different ride, I guarantee it.
You won't have any more body roll around turns.
Awesome, they appear to be about $200 a set so not bad at all. I think just about every Jeep im looking at has either rough country or the old Ranchero 5000 with no x....so no matter what Jeep we get I’ll probably swap the shocks to the 5000x. Now I just need to convince my wife that it will actually feel a lot different than when we test drive them. Lol
My 5000x's came with the boots separate from the shocks. They never made it past the kitchen counter before I tossed them.
Really? Mine came with a hard plastic boot installed that I had to cut off with a razor knife and tin snips.

Considering you've run both, how much of a difference in there between the fox's and the ranchos? I specifically have the BDS fox 2.0's but I don't think that really matters that much.
Not ever having had a set of the old Rancho 5000, are they identifiable just by looking at them, or do they have something stamped on the shock that IDs them as such?
For you guys with Rancho 5000x gas shocks, do any of you have lifts greater than 3 1/2" or 4"? If so, how much spring lift do you have and what part # shocks did you use front and rear?
The reason I ask is that Rancho's online shock selection filters do not provide any application specific 5000x part numbers for TJ/LJ lifts taller than 3 1/2". However, I suspect that a little time with the Rancho catalog comparing extended/compressed lengths and upper/lower mounting codes would reveal additional selections that would work with taller spring lifts such as the 5" or 5 1/2" lifts marketed by some companies.
Here is the exact ones I bought, and I have cycled both front and rear suspension, and they are good on droop, and stuff! I am installing a Currie 4" lift.

How much up and down travel do you have now? OE fenders?
