Please Help! Speedometer reads 95 when I'm going 25

I have a 2004 Rubicon I recently had the a/c repaired and while I was driving away I felt the governor. I looked down and it said I was going 95. My mechanic tried flashing the CPU but it didn't help. If he removes the speed sensor it drives perfect but obviously I won't have a speedometer.

So it sounds like that's your problem right there, a faulty speed sensor. That would be the first thing I'd replace. I'd leave it unplugged for now (you'll have to live without a speedometer for a short time) while you order a new one.

Could the mechanic have done anything else where he might have disconnected the plug at the speed sensor at the rear of the transfer case? Or damaged the wiring harness? At least look at the speed sensor plug at the rear of the transfer case. I don't see how it being disconnected could cause the speedometer to read 90 unless a missing input signal lets the circuit run wild but it's worth a look.

What brand of speed sensor did you replace it with?

Or does he mean he replaced it with no help from the forum? I find myself constantly reading between the lines on a forum of mostly men. He never asked for help directly, but wondering if he wanted more help than he led onto? Or he just wanted us to know he got the sensor and put it in himself. He didn’t want to leave us hangin

My guess is he still has the problem and he did a Google search which led him back to his original post.

That is the quintessential difference in lingo between male and female. In the man’s estimation, the words we choose are exactly what we want to say, and nothing more at all, whereas, when we say something, it seems like women read into what we are saying, something negative or critical. It’s weird. Not being a jerk, just saying that what you are saying seems to be very much like what is going on, in some ways. You know what I mean, I hope! LOL
