Since its the Goddess Bastet, She needs a way to fly up to heaven! ;) Naw, its a scarab if you look at it close enough.

I see it now. Rats, was kind hoping for the jet pack. 🤩 that is an amazing papyrus.

A guy I used to work with had to buy a camel so that his son could marry a Somali girl.

Students I had in South Africa would have to pay the equivalent of the cost of a cow for bride price. The higher the woman's status the more cows (money) you paid. One of my students paid the equivalent of I think 12 cows, a very high status wife.

I feel like my fiancé would he-man-bitch-slap me if I told her she was equivalent to 12 cows.

Edit: conversely, I also think she'd do the same if I told her she was only worth one 🤔

Tribal culture is radically different, and some of the tribes don't get along all that well. Bride price is fairly consistent among most tribes though that is changing.

I wonder what it costs these days to get someone to take your wife off your hands. Surely, they don't offer refunds...:sneaky:

I'm glad it doesn't work that way here. The American version would probably consist of trading squarebody Chevy trucks or Camaros. But it would be a great setup for girl dads. I probably couldn't afford to marry in that situation. In all honesty though, in a lot of instances I would probably have a hard time parting with the dowry vehicle and in many cases in my past it wouldn't have been a worthwhile trade 😂

Historically bride price was for economic compensation to the family giving up the daughter. In a traditional agricultural or hunter gatherer society losing a productive member of the family could cause hardship.

For what it's worth , I sold my tall deck 427 BBC to buy my wife's engagement ring . She's totally worth it though !!!!

I sold a 250k mile 2wd Toyota t100 with a lifter tap so bad I couldn't with certainty rule out that it was actually a rod knock.

We didn't have a wedding exactly, but her dad gave us the money he would have spent on a wedding, and in Colorado you just need a witness, no minister, so her dad signed the marriage license as a witness. I have jokingly referred to it as a bill of sale and also about how much money he's ahead by paying me to take her off his expense sheet. 😂 Her level of amusement is a function of what kind of mood she's in at the time.
