I’m going to attempt to install the taillight over it by cutting a piece of aluminum to put under the taillight to spade it out from the body and make it even with the Exogate plate. Does this make sense? That means the taillight on the right side will stick out a little further, but it won’t be noticeable as the thickness of that plate can’t be more than 1/8” I suppose.
That makes perfect and logical sense to me, and what I was thinking you might do. The downside is your OCD and if you notice the difference between the right and left taillights, one popping out that 1/8 of an inch.
I can live with 1/8" by all means. I doubt anyone but me will ever be able to notice it. Now I just have to hope I get my Exogate sooner rather than later!
I'll be curious to see how it looks.. I'm in no rush to change my taillights but will one day.

Are their odds anywhere I can place a wager that your perfectionism kicks in and forces you to further modify the taillights?
I suppose if I really wanted to I could either trim the section necessary out of the Exogate mounting plate. Or if I wanted to be super anal, I could have that taillight housing machined so that it had a recess for the tailgate mounting plate, haha!
Make a billet aluminum spacer for the left tail light so they both stick out 1/8". Done, and done!
Thats what I was leaning towards. If you get anything made custom for the tail-light let me know, I'd consider going in on it

Did you ever get an answer to this question? I didn't find it in the thread if you did. Just curious. The Moryde website seems to indicate you can do this upgrade step-by-step, but like you, I'm not sure where I can find the heavy duty brackets by themselves if I just want to buy the hinges for now.
I did not receive an answer...I know you can buy just the heavy-duty hinges, but I have yet to find out if you can buy the other components without purchasing the full system, including the hinges.

For example, when you’re still toting the factory spare, start off with installing just the hinges for a rattle-free tailgate. When you upgrade to a heavier spare that will fit on the stock carrier, then install the reinforcement along with the hinges. If you go to a larger, heavier spare, install both the reinforcement and the spare tire carrier for optimal reinforcement, both sold separately.
I did not see where on the MORryde site it says the reinforcement is available separately, but maybe a call to MORryde can clear that up...I would love to get the hinges initially, as my tailgate is actually fine with the 32" tire on it, but I am one of those who likes to replace wear parts with overkill parts...

Ok, I talked to Ashley and Austin at MORryde. The word is that none of their dealers sell the reinforcement separate from the hinges, they only sell the hinges as replacements. However, since it is modular, you can build it by doing the hinges first, then adding the reinforcement later. All you have to do is call MORryde and inform them of your situation. They will be glad to sell you the reinforcement directly.
Being able to buy the hinges only is good for people with stock size spares or slightly larger spares. They will relieve some stress on the inside spot welds that hold the plates. If you go to 33's, they suggest getting the whole kit. They said it was on the border. At 35's they said there's no question you need the whole kit.
If you call to order just the reinforcement, ask for Austin, extension 1262.
I went ahead and ordered some hinges this morning, Retrofit Offroad has them for $145 + free s/h. Gr8tops was $150 plus $25 s/h to my zip code.
If you're referring to the triangular shaped bracket that ties in to the roll bar anchor, yes, which is too bad, but in speaking with Austin, the bracket that extends across the tailgate is very important for alleviating the stress on the hinges too. It spreads out the load, so that is a key part of the design too.
