Auto shifter linkage help

I was out in the woods in the middle of no where today with no signal. My shifter linkeage came off - I could not shift gears and was stuck in park.

Looking underneath I found it and zip tied it back together as a field repair and was able to get out of the woods. What’s the permanent fix? Hoping to have the Jeep operational for the weekend, looks like it was on by just pressure as nothing obvious was missing.

Nope I actually thought it was this issue at first and got a nice blood blister as the pliers pinched my hand trying to remove the sex beads, but they definitely were not broken

Do you happen to have a thread like common issues with (auto) TJs, spare parts you should always carry and how to fix the issues involved.

I was in a parking lot so could have probably got a tow I’d really needed but not a great feeling “breaking down” like that. Especially an hour from the nearest town and no cell signal.

No, I don’t, but I suppose I ought to see if I can piece one together as this issue you had and the other issue I linked to are the two common ones I always hear about.

Appreciate it! I’d love to just be better versed in this stuff and other non-auto-related TJ issues so if something happens again I know how to fix it right away even if I can’t access forums, I knew about the chopstick fix which is why I tried that first.

The ignition switch is something I should have too right? Need to look into that fix

I carry two of those bushings in my glovebox. I have loaned one out a couple times, but have never needed it....yet.

I also have a chopstick in my shifter! It's been working for years! I carry spare chopstick too, and have loaned it out as well.

Just part of owning a auto TJ, I guess.

No but fortunately the 32RH/30RH doesn't have that problem with its shifter. The cable connector for the 32RH just snaps downward over the top of a ball joint and is generally trouble-free. There's no separate bushing there to have to worry about.

I don't know but it likely would if that model year JK is using the 42RLE transmission. I know nothing about JKs, I don't know what transmission is behind their 3.8L engine. I know the 3.6 does not use a 42RLE.
