OME light duty springs

Does anyone have a set of front OME light duty springs they would be willing to sell? I ordered the OME heavy duty kit for my 97 SE and the front is very unforgiving. The ride on the front is extremely harsh and when I sit or stand on the front bumper the suspension will not compress even a little. I'm thinking I need light duty springs and shocks up front. The rear rides nice so I'm happy there.

What shocks are you running and did you change them at the same time as the spring install?

The difference between the lightest and heaviest duty OEM front springs is 20lbs/in. Something else is going on.

Are you satisfied with the ride height?

Yes, satisfied with the ride height. The ride on the front suspension is just harsh. My combination of the 2.5L and soft top, and no winch doesn't help much for weight on the front.

I can imagine. I am running the light duty springs on my Rubicon with the 4.0L, aftermarket bumpers, and even with the hard top, when it's on, I don't feel the springs aren't up to the task...but as mentioned, it may have something to do with the shocks also...

Typically springs support the weight of the vehicle, shocks give ride comfort.

I used to have the nitrochargers. They are a very stiff shocks. You would probably be better off investing in a new set of ranchos then changing your springs.

31's running 28 psi. I could believe it's the shocks if it weren't for the fact that I can stand on the front bumper and bounce and the front will hardly move like only a 1/4", I'm not a big guy 210lbs, but I'd think it should move more than that. I can get my 350 super duty to move more than that.

Take the shocks off and jump on the front bumper. I bet it will move a lot more.

Your new springs are nearly the same rate as stock. What you are experiencing is the shock valving.

Russin you state "I'm thinking I need light duty springs and shocks up front." Given the experience here on the forum I personally would change the shocks before I replaced the springs. There is good reporting on the forum for Rancho rs5000x.

Rancho rs615 coils are 10lbs lighter than OME and slightly longer. They will have a tiny fraction less ride height than your current OMEs. These are the lightest front coils I am aware of for the TJ.

You can try these out and discover that there will be no precievable difference in the ride, or you can try a shock that is known to ride more nicely that the Nitrocharger Sports you have.

It's a shame, because OME used to make a pretty good shock.

You can do what you want with your money, but I'd save mine and get new shocks. Shocks control ride quality, springs have little to do with it. You may be 210 lbs, but that's nothing compared to the forces of riding down the road and hitting bumps where your sprung weight is likely around 1500lbs up front. If the shocks are valved overly stiff (or for a heavier vehicle or offroad use) then they will feel very stiff on the road and you will feel every little bump. Better valved shocks are the answer to that.

I agree, the OME Nitro Gas shocks are too stiff! I went with Kings, and they are AMAZING!!!

But I still have an issue with the rear HD 2" Rear Springs; they do not support the weight of the rear with Rock Hard full rear carrier (tire, tanks and rack), plus full skids and even a roof tent. Right now, loaded, the vehicle sits lower than stock height...

Per ARB, there OMETJHK are rated for 200lb; they recommended I get the OME #2949 Rear Springs which is rated at 400lbs.

OME 2949 is 216lb/in

OMETJHK is the heavy kit, but neither front or rear coils are 200lbs/in.

According to Ryan at ARB, the #2949 are rated at 400lbs; do you have info that states different? If so, I need to call him back and clarify; I've got the #2949 on order...
