on our Cortinas there was a ring around the rubber pump which would start the wiper ... wow this one is for sale on ebay for $500.

yeah I don't remember that either but I DO remember the vacuum wipers...they seemed to work opposite to how they should haha
(on my Herald the wipers would move half way then give up)

On most, but not all makes. Rambler ran theirs off the fuel pump, so it relied on the diaphragm rather than off straight manifold vacuum. It was a much better system. My '65 Classic never had an issue, and I could dial those puppies down to a crawl across the windshield!

Mother Mopar used them for decades. My wife's '71 Dodge Demon still had that set-up!

yeah, back then a bumper was often not even included. But the step bumper with a hitch ball was a top dealer installed option.
