What did you do to your TJ today?

Today I fixed my shifter boot bracket and I replaced my 41 tooth speedo gear! It is about time, I am tired of driving 110mph on the freeway to work.

Here is the stock vs the 41 tooth.

Well.....I bought mine haha!! Bought my first jeep. She's a 97 TJ made a 6 hour drive from my house to pick it up! I have already run new rear brake lines and put a new master cylinder in. I am super excited to be a jeep guy!
Congrats and welcome. So you did all of that in one day?? Impressive

Friendly reminder to really, throughly go over your new (USED) Jeep TJ when you get it home.
When I was changing out the TC fluid I noticed a floor pan drain plug missing. This is no friend to a Michigan vehicle in the winter. At first I just made a mental note and moved on with my day. As the day/evening wore on I got to thinking that I never checked if the other plugs were missing. It NAGGED at me hard! At about 11pm I went to the garage and checked it out. Sure enough I’m missing 3 of the 4 floor pan plugs.
So...I duct taped the holes after brake parts cleaner-ing the areas for the time being, and ordered 4 MOPAR replacements from Morris 4x4 for $5 a pop. Winter salt is a real opponent in the Midwest. The better you know your vehicle the better you can protect it.

Worked next to the TJ, replacing the front brake rotors and pads on my wife's 2012 Honda Civic. Relatively easy job. I feel like @Squatch, working on my family's vehicles instead of the Jeep.
Haha! Yep. I was headed out to the garage today after sending the wife and granddaughter off in the daughter's van to have pictures taken. Well, that was the plan, anyways. Poor connection due to a broken negative battery terminal. Cleaned up the connection, and the alarm starts going off (horns blaring). Pulled the fuse for the horns, but the anti-theft devise had already been activated, creating a no-start condition. Spent the next hour + trying to disable the system. Finally got that accomplished, and then took the van out for a ride. Great. It's slipping going into third gear. (sigh) It was dark by then. I'll look at the fluid level tomorrow. No garage time today. Tomorrow? Son's 21st birthday, and I'm selling my '01 Mazda Protégé to a co-worker, so no garage time tomorrow, either.
*Sorry. Derailment over.

Part of the reason I drove so far was to get a eist free one because of the vehicle quality where I live (snow belt). I am curious about the floor plugs now though, I'm going to look.

Oh for sure! I got a pretty good find. Everything is solid, only a couple small rust spots that aren’t too serious yet. I didn’t have to opportunity to look for a long while. It was a very unplanned messy series of events that ended with me having my TJ and a huge smile lol. I think if when I do it again, I’m going to look for one further south or west for sure.
The dealership had mine as a trade in from the PO. They replaced worn out soft top and put on a lot of new stuff. What I find is they left some things loose. I keep finding random screws needing tightened. Or missing like the floor pan plugs.

You'll never believe this but I bought mine for 2900$....basically no rust, came with brand new 31" tires, spare rim and tire matching, a hard top, a bikini top, half doors, full doors, screen doors, a tannuea cover, and it has a new battery! I couldn't pass the deal up, it was the original owner a guy in his early 60s. Pretty cool guy, he had an amazing CJ he wanted 25k for....I passed on that hahahaha

Holy shit! That’s crazy man. Yeah, I would’ve been all over that too lol. Do you know why was he selling so low?
He said hes "too old to be climbing up and in them things anymore"

It does have 175k miles, he said he based his proce on not wanting to deal with "bull shit" and the mileage....because I asked over the phone before I drove down.

These guys in west virginia and south have clean ones for dirt cheap. You just need to go lower than the road salt haha. Around here if you don't oil spray or constantly clean 'em, you're rusting out. The roads look like a McDonalds frying station when the snow clears in March. .
