Shock Mount Relocation

Hey all,

I have an 01 Sport and recently swapped in a Dana 44 in the rear, the person who owned axle before I did relocated the rear lower shock mount (I guess for more ground clearance), I had to get shorter shocks due to this, but as I am looking at purchasing a new lift kit for my TJ (currently have a Pro Comp 4") I want to relocate my rear shock mounts to the stock position so the lift kits will work easier without having to order different shocks than those included. My question is, do you recommend I buy the high end currie or Teraflex ones? Or will standard ones work just fine? I do moderate wheeling about two to three times a month in SoCal but due to having the Dana 30 up front still I am easy on the skinny pedal.

Wow, that's dumb!

A shock bracket is a fairly basic thing. If I were in your situation needing to fix the lower, I would move it behind the lower control arm mount and make it a bit lower to keep the window open. This will allow for a slightly longer travel shock.

As far as kits and the shocks that might come with them, I wouldn't trust their lengths or quality to be what I want. Here is where you can free yourself up to make an improvement.

Yea I thought the same thing when I realized it, but I bought both the front 30 with ARB and the Rear Dana 44 with detriot (both geared to 4.56) for $1100 so I figured it was worth the hastle to fix them.

If the Jeep has a body lift, teraflex sells a upper relocation bracket that raises the upper mount an inch. That is another opportunity to add some length to the shock or reduce some bump stop.

You might be able to cut off those mounts carefully and re-use them. Just rotate them down where they belong and grind then to index onto the axle tube.
I tried relocating my lower mounts to the back side of the arm bracket with some Clayton brackets, but as a result, the new angle of the shocks just kisses the frame at full stuff.

You and me both, it was a great deal on axels so I didn't let a shock mount sway me away but this is pretty bad. Wanting to get them placed back in the stock position asap.

I believe you can get OE style shock mounts from Poly Performance. When I did my outboard shock conversion, they came with that kit, so I suspect you can probably get them separate. I would call up Poly Performance and ask them, I'll bet they've got them.

They're right down in California too.

Yea I was thinking about that, but as I moved out to San Diego i went from a 3 car garage to a 1 car and had to downsize so my welder is in Tennessee right now.

I would just cut those out and reuse them. Cut at a 45 degree angle into the weld, slowly until you just hit the tube. Then knock it with a hammer.
