Now that it’s getting sunny in Minnesota there are a lot more jeeps on the road. Since I’m still relatively new to the Jeep world there are some things I need to clear up. The main question is: Do you wave when your on a divided highway or road? Not necessarily the interstate but more of a four lane divided road. The second is: Do you wave to jeeps beside you? This could potentially be during a stoplight when you pull up next to another Jeep. I’ve tried both with very low return waves, am I doing it wrong or do they just not see or care?

Hey, it's someone else from Burnsville!

I'll admit from what I've seen that there's not a ton of TJs around and people in newer Jeeps are a lot less likely to wave.

As for when to wave, it's usually just when driving past another wrangler that's heading the other way. There's some people that take the whole Jeep wave thing super seriously, but there's really not that much to it and nothing's set in stone.

If I'm paying attention I'll wave at them in whatever Jeep they are in, doesn't matter to me if they wave back or not. If I'm out just enjoying my drive, I will wave at most anybody really.

Forum Jeep wave Guidelines

1. Tj with stock grill- wave is mandatory , unless it will cause you to spill your beer

2. CJ - we recommend a wave , no wave back is acceptable , they are trying to keep it on the road

2a yj - wave , but don't nod . They are probably out looking for a TJ to buy , so don't distract them too much.

3. XJ- don't wave unless waved upon, and then try to give a sympathetic nod for their dilemma

4. JK /JL- see #3

5. Any jeep with aftermarket grill-NO.

Failure to follow rule #5 may lead to an investigation by Forum Administration Staff. Fyi- It won't be pretty.

Unfortunately, no one will follow the rules, it like when people spec out a super 35 when the rules state there is no such thing as a super 35...

I’m in West Texas. I wave at everyone. It is pretty obvious the jk/jl crowd doesn’t wave back unless they’ve spent some gas on a trail.

Yeah- there's a lot of heavily modded newer Jeeps around/in Atlanta, most of them Rubicons that will never see a dirt road let alone a trail. I think people see them as convertible SUVs with an added bonus of just running over other cars when that group text is getting lit. They don't wave for probably this exact reason.

And to the OP, I'm new too and I try to keep a hand free around the house, lots of dirty and beat on 4.0's around here haha.
There's a decent amount of folks who keep the doors off around here too, and they reach out trying to high five you. Hardcore stuff.

I always wave to the XJs. There aren't a whole lot on the road around here anymore but most of them are on the way to or from the woods.

You know that you have driven a Jeep too long when when you pass another Jeep, wave, and then realize you're in the wife's Prius......:rolleyes::ROFLMAO:

I've done this a couple times in the wife's Forester and my truck.

Early and often. Usually can tell the ones that won't wave back, but its more for me than them!
