Tonight I'm replacing my stock drive shaft on my 05 unlimited rubicon with a tom woods DC shaft. What are torque specs for bolts at output flange at transfer case and for ujoint straps at differential?

Just want to make sure it's 14 at the U joint 85 at the flange?

It's in now. No vibes.

I wish I knew what those parts were called too.

But damn, that old driveshaft is rusted to hell!
I know. Crazy huh. But look how clean the tub and underside is. How can the drive shaft be that bad with everything else clean lol?

All I can think of is that maybe someone put a used driveshaft in there at some point? It doesn't make much sense if you ask me.

It's not really easy to get into those bolts with a torque wrench. It's easiest to use a 6pt wrench and tighten them down by hand. Use loctite on them so you can remove them in the future.

My tub and frame are nearly rust free and my driveshafts look at least that bad. I couldn't figure it out either. The front shaft is even worse!

I'm reviving this REALLY old thread to try to get the right answer here. I have a 2006 Rubicon. I'm replacing the rear driveshaft with a double cardan. The little tiny strap screws are 15 ft-lbs (or basically hand tight). What i can't find a torque spec for are the 4 bolts that attach the flange to the transfer case. Those bolts, while I didn't measure them, are probably m10 or m12, which implies to me it is a 50 ft-lb+ spec, but can't find anything one way or the other.

Does anyone here happen to know?

Doug

Using a torque spec chart for the bolt size should solve your problem.

Always an option regardless of location, but figured I'd try to get Jeep specific spec

I’ve always just hand tightened them with some blue loctite, but as you stated it’s always good to know if there’s something specific. I don’t have that spec. Sorry.

Thanks JMT!

I didn't have the FSM handy, but you are correct. I'll list them all here for reference:
Front yoke: 14 ft-lb
Front flange: 20 ft-lb
Rear yoke: 14 ft-lb
Rear flange: 85 ft-lb

These are all from the 2006 FSM, and for the record, no difference between Rubicon and non except that the Rubicon rear has a flange on the transfer case side and the non doesn't
