Millenials + GoFundMe =

My dad is currently dying from Stage IV neck and throat cancer. He drained through his entire savings and had to downsize to a one bedroom apartment. He's living on pennies now, and even with as much as we can help him out, it wasn't enough.

With GoFundMe, we raised 10k for him and my step-mom. It didn't put much of a dent in things, but nonetheless, it helped.

That being said, GoFundMe can be used for good, I have no doubt. However, it can also be abused as is the case with the original post.

Also, maybe you guys missed it, but that story in the news recently where that couple supposedly started that GoFundMe to help that "homeless" man who helped them when they ran out of gas... yeah, that turned out to be nothing but a huge scam, remember?

Bottom line, don't donate to anyone on GoFundMe unless you know them in some way, shape, or form. There's a lot of scammers on there who are using pity stories that aren't even true.

A lot of people have turned GoFundMe into panhandling on a global scale.
Chris I'm really sorry to hear about your father. We also used GoFundMe after my mother in law was in an accident then a coma for 3 months. It could be used for good but shit like the link above is nuts. And 1,500 seems a bit excessive. Maybe I should make a monthly go fund me for my house mortgage.

Thanks. He's been dying slowly for 2 years now, and is now 100% on a feeding tube and has hospice care, so I can't imagine he has much longer.

Yep, I think I'll need a GoFundMe for my mortgage as well. Maybe one for my kids college too.

I love the people I see driving around on their donut spare like it's a spare you're supposed to be driving around on! Bawhahahahaha

I agree they can be used for great, legitimate reasons.
My dads "GoFundMe" account when he was dying of brain tumors/cancer after 7 years was a 9mm to the head in a rented car in a parking lot so nobody had to clean up the mess when he started losing all faculties so he wouldn't become a "burden."
They didn't call 'em the "Greatest Generation" for no reason, talk about the ultimate sacrifice!

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. In all honesty, I would probably take the same way out myself if I was in that situation, no kidding. I don't ever want to be a burden to my kids (which is what we are going through now with my dad).

I also don't want to end up where I have to eat out of a tube, have someone bathe me, wipe my ass, etc. I'd rather just end it on my own terms at that point.

Definitely, if I get terminal cancer, I'll be damned if I drain all my families funds and drag out the inevitable just to suffer for years to come like he did. I'll pass on treatment if it's terminal with no hope.

Wow, Chris and Tray. Sorry about your dads.

My mother died of terminal cancer but died (thankfully) 2 months after diagnosis. My dad sort of died of cancer. He was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer. A week later he Went into the hospital to have a “chemo ablation” or something like that where the inject chemo/radiation pellets directly into the tumor. It was supposed to give him more time. But he died 3 days later from complications. Good thing he likely would have suffered for the 9-12 months he had left.

I’d like to think I’d end things under my own terms too. But you never know until it’s you in that situation.

I don't think I'm the "blow my brains" out kinda guy, too messy. I'd take a whole bottle of the pain killers I'd be prescribed when I knew I'd be alone for a few hours myself.

So wait a minute. Does that mean I'll be the bad guy if I start a gofundme to finish my bar at my new house? I mean, I have some bar things and I probably only need $30,000 or so to finish it how I want. I'm too old to be a millennial so I should be good, Right?🍻
Sounds like a legit reason to me! Especially, if you have a walk-in or built-in humidor!
You need to check out "Man shit Monday" then on YouTube also.

That's a shame you're forced to pay out of your own pocket for a bar.

To be morbid about it don't use pills. They will likely turn you into the burden you are trying not to be. They are useful if you are trying to issue one of those "cries for help" but rarely get the job done.

I don't know about 30 at once with a few beers ought'a do it?

Ive never donated to GFM, probably never will. If I know someone who needs help Ill do my best in person

I'm on the same page.

Depressing how many of these things are medical issues people need money for.

That rim damage is impressive, I don't think I've ever seen one spit like that.
