Questions about lifting my TJ

Hello,

I'm Rick from the Netherlands, and i have a few questions, about my Jeep wrangler 4.0 aut 2004.

I want a suspension liftkit and i'm thinking off 2.5 or 3.25inch. The most of the time it will be a daily driver (for my girl). So it has to drive good on the road.

I've read a lot of the Dana 35 axle, so i think the biggest size tyres is 32ers without any risk of failure by normal driving and no problems with the gearing (3.73).

Is it better to have a 2.5 inch rc lift with only shocks and springs.

Or the 3.25inch with Track Bar Relocation Kit and the trans lowering drop kit?.

Don't know if i need anything else with the 2.5 inch liftkit? Like a lowering kit or trackbar relocation kit?

I'm on my third Jeep TJ now. I have done a 2 inch lift to all three. I found that for most TJs a 2 inch (and I'm assuming a 2.5 inch) lift with longer shocks is all I needed. I didn't have any problems with driveline vibrations so dropping the T case was not needed. Just had a front end alignment done to adjust for the lift. How these Jeeps react to any lift seems to vary, but I think 2 inch is ok. Everyone I've know that did 3 inches or more had to adjust the drive line angle and track bar, etc. I have the 16 inch Moab wheels with 31 inch tires. I'm getting by with that (I have the 3.73 gears as well), but a gear swap would be much better. I mostly use my Jeep to drive around town in, not much off roading any more. If I did I would want 4.56 gears.

After researching multiple forums and threads it seems most would agree it’s the best bang for the buck 2” lift out there.

I recently installed it myself and i’m Extremely satisfied with ride quality. I’m running 285/75/16s so basically 33s

I also searching for the right backspacing, with the 32x11.5R15 tyres on 8j rims. I want them max 1 inch sticking out the jeep/fenderflare. Because in Europe we have al lot or rules and its not allowed to stick more than 3cm out of the fender flare

I’m running 1.25” spidertrax spacers because I was rubbing on the lower control arms at full lock. Options were spacers or washers to limit steering. I stick out about 2” with stock fenders. I was barely sticking out before the spacers on stock MOABs. No idea what the backspacing on my rims are...I’m sure someone on here has covered it before.

I don't think you could fit 11.5" wide tires without them sticking out too much. As you can see "OliverJeepDad" had to put spacers on his wheels with 5" of backspacing to fit 285/75r16 and they are 11.2" wide. I would suggest 31x10.5r15 with 4.5" or 5" of backspacing, it would be better for your gearing aswell. I believe all european TJs have the wider fender flares but you may have to check that to be sure, they should be 4.25" wide (108mm)

My fender flares are indeed 4.25'' wide. So that's a good thing. Do you know how much it will sticking out when i buy the 8J with 4,5'' backspacing with the 32x11,5x15r tires? And do they rub at full lock?

Those shouldn't rub at full lock, and if they do, it will be just barely.

Also, with that backspace, they should fit almost flush with the fender flares. They may stick out about 1/2", but not very much at all, I can guarantee that.

I'm only referring to specs and pictures that I saw with different offsets and tire sizes but I'm new to Jeeps too. You can believe Chris, he has more experience. Next week I'll have my new wheels and tires installed, they are 16x8 with 4.5" of backspacing with 265/75r16 ( 10.5" wide ) if you want I'll show you how they fit, hopefully they will be almost flush. Yours should stick out 0.5" more than mine with the specs you mentioned. Actual tire sizes may vary a bit depending on brands though

When you lift the jeep ,you may have throw issues with the transfer case linkage keeping you from putting it into 4 Low.

There is an adjustment nut on the throw rod , and several cable kits on the market that eliminate the archaic linkage entirely .

Ok! That's nice to know. After some research i've decided to do a 3,75'' bs so i've a little bit more than 1''. The look is more aggressive When everything is done i will put some pictures from before and after.

Just so you know, if your tires stick out, when it rains or snows, it will sling crap everywhere, if you keep them just inside the flare, you wont have to clean your windows or worry about as many rocks hitting other people's vehicles. Tim

How'd you get on with this? It looks amazing just what I'm looking to do. What are the 32's like with the 3.73 gearing? I have the same.
Also which wheels have you got? I'm contemplating going steel as I love the basic look but those look like alloys.

You're evidently active on here Boogie man, any thoughts on tyre size vs. gearing? Road use only, 3.73, was looking at 33 but some suggested 31's are max.

Plan to do a 2" OME lift with all the accompanyments and poss 1.25" body lift if needed after.

It's a personal preference. I know people running 33s with 3.73 gearing and it doesn't bother them at all. I always turned the OD off on my 42rle trans Jeeps for highway use.
