Lift Kit Advice Needed

Looking for some input. Thinking about putting a 3.5 lift on my 97 TJ 4.0 currently running 31 tires. It is mostly a weekend vehicle but driven around town a couple of times a week.

What are your thoughts on the following? What else do I need to think about? What else should I consider?

For 31" tires you might consider a simple suspension refresh, there are plenty of threads about that using Moog springs and RS5000X shocks. You don't need or probably want a lift for 31" tires, they fit stock just fine.

If you want to run bigger tires you should pick those first, it's very important for everything else.

I would buy a set of Currie or Snergy coil sprigs, have core 4x4 build you a set of control arms that have Synergy DDB bushings in them, YJ brake hoses for the front, JKS sway bar disconnects for the front, SYE of your choice. Fox shocks for the best ride set up by @pcoplin or a set of rancho RS5000 shocks, Tom woods Drive shafts, I would do the ZJ steering, this would be a good balanced system and allows you to do it in stages.

What size shocks would I need for the 3.5 lift? For a TJ it seems I can only find shocks for 2-3" & 4-5".

Choose shocks by their compressed and extended lengths. You need the ones that fit your setup. Meaning that you will need to measure your Jeep's travels and understand how to set the bump stops.

I echo the 4" lift for 33s. Easiest way to measure for shocks is to measure from the top shock mount to the bottom mount, as well as the distance between the bumpstop cup and axle pad, and subtracting the two numbers will give you the shock length you need.

So for instance, if your first number was 15" and your second was 5", you know your compressed shock length is 10". That will narrow your search to a shock that will fit the compressed length.

Sounds just like my jeep v01. I would highly recommend skipping on the RE kit.

What size tires do you ultimately want to run? If 33s I would go for a kit such as the OME ultimate kit. (best thing is you could most likely skip on the sye)

If you account that it comes with a antirock and body lift you're about in the same ball park.

Your kit comes to $2,547, not including the shocks and sye for $685 since you need them regardless.

I would argue the Currie kit I linked in my previous post is better built and roughly $100 less.

Also, check out Tom woods for the driveshaft/SYE. They are a fantastic company to work with.

You could also use stock YJ brake lines to save money. (they are longer)

That kit is only $1,500 and you likely wouldn't need an SYE and it comes with shocks.

If you see yourself moving to 35s one day though it's best to buy once cry once I suppose. It's your money spend it as you wish.

Take a look at @JMT, @bobthetj03, and many others with similar setups. @JMT's rig did amazing in Moab and @bobthetj03 has been over the Rubicon, Moab, and many other trails.
