How capable is your build?

I’ve wondered what the sticker on ur hood meant.. I suppose it’s an up grade option, a sticker, or a badge you get for completion?
Well the sticker is just a sticker. After doing the Rubicon in my 05 Rubicon that was fine. But after doing Fordyce I thought ok my 05 is up to more than just the Rubicon, hence the name change. I like things (being OCD) to look stock or at least close. I found a guy on Jeep Forum a couple years ago that had the Rubicon font. So I had new stickers made up using this font, most don't notice the name change which is ok with me. It's the guys that know the difference usually comment and give a thumbs up.

Ok don't let the steps fool you they come right off when on the trail, just a bit easier for us old guys when driving around town ;)

I’ve got 2000 SE with 33s, 4.88 gears, ARB in a Dana 44 rear and Aussie in HPD30 front. Here is a video of my doing Outer Limits at Rausch Creek a couple weeks ago:

Did you air down? Looks too bumpy and I can’t see a bulge in your tire wall

Love this rig

I think my TJ is far more capable than I know with 33s & lockers, a better driver could certainly push it well beyond what I do with it. The most noticeable limitation for me has been the shovel, if I could change one thing for better performance that would be it; other than that my suspension could use a tweaking, I've got a 3 inch lift which isn't adequate for the tires but between another inch coil spacer up front & some extra bump stops I've mitigated some of the issues, no doubt have given up some performance in the process however. Other than that the thing honestly has scared me on more than a few occasions as it pulls forward, talking about when I’m pointed skyward & it just keeps going, sometimes it feels like I’m going to flip over backwards before it would stop; the thing is really a tank. I know this probably has never really been as close to happening as it feels like inside, it always feels more treacherous inside than it looks from outside. I chalk this up to my relative inexperience compared to many out there & getting into this thing late in life.

when I think back over my failures to conquer obstacles over the years they're almost always a result of self-limiting action on my part rather than a deficiency in my rig. The TJ just still blows me away every time I'm behind the wheel, and that's a pretty good thing.

absolutely love it.. seen it a few times around the forum.. we dont( nor need) those type of rigs over here in the south but if I ever did built one it would look like this👍🏻.. need to figure how I can get a sticker like that to put on mine for “goal” purposes!!!

Yeah, I'm definitely re-gearing. I'll probably be doing the axles first, talked to a guy here it will be around $3k for front and back re gearing, super 35s by revolution and arb locker. We might look into a Dana 44 swap as it might even be cheaper he might get the housing for cheap.
When you reach this point in your build and you’re looking at swapping out carriers for gears, why not do an ARB in the front as well as the back? The cost isn’t that much more and you will already have the air compressor. The ability to switch between locked axles as well as run completely open is another benefit that you don’t get when you lunchbox your front.

I was aired down to 11PSI. I'm running Falken Wildpeak M/Ts which are C rated. The little 4 banger is so light and the 231 transfer case is much for crawling and I'm not a big fan riding the clutch. I'm still learning and I cam e back the next day on that trail and was much smoother.

4" of lift and 33" tires will definitely get you on the rubicon. I'd say the biggest improvement to the capabilities of my jeep are the front E locker, rear truetrac, currie steering, and antirock. Then add as much armor as you need for where you want to go.

I've got upgraded axles in the rear 35 but still have stock up front. The Jeep always surprises me with how capable it is.

Why true track in the back, w locker in the front? Wouldn't it make more sense the other way around? That's what I had planned for mine. Also planning on getting hub disconnects so I don't have to deal with the annoying clicking if the locker when I dont need it . But I might just got for e locker back and front, I will be driving in snow and ice a lot. Heard automatic lockers ain't the best.

Plumber 1 has it nailed . I get really attached to my stuff, and I think I'm actually a little attached to his.

As far as how capable is your rig, mine is capable of driving me crazy and bankrupting a third world country.

I have to drive mine home so I am not sure how capable my Jeep actually is. The other thing is I don't have a real roll cage. My rule is not to do long, difficult, steep climbs until I upgrade my cage.
Don't worry about it too much. You'll never install a real roll cage anyway.

4" lift, 33s, a tummy tuck, antirock, raised shock mounts and lockers can give you a very capable rig.

I like to think mine is capable. Though I could use a 4:1 ratio in the tcase and I need to do something about my control arms. I get more wheel hop when under load than I want...View attachment 114283View attachment 114284View attachment 114285View attachment 114286View attachment 114287View attachment 114288View attachment 114289

What needs done to your control arms? I have been working on my rear short arm geometry in hopes of reducing hop. My current arms have 2.625" ends that prohibits moving the hole in the bottom axle bracket like the Nth degree relocation. I rotated the upper mounts forward from stock to make up for the pinion being raised for a DC driveshaft. Moving the upper mounts forward also gave me some room for the track bar and track bar mount with out hitting the gas tank. All of the brackets are 1/4" thick and should hold up.

Umm....is that a dare? I know your definition of a "roll cage" and plan on doing it right. It looks 100 times easier than the one I bent and installed in my Mustang. My tube bender is in Texas and I'm going to get it during Thanksgiving.

Not a dare. It isn't my definition of a roll cage. It is "the" definition of a roll cage that I refer to. No one is going to pull the dash, x brace behind the firewall, run through the engine bay to the front bumper, V bar the windshield properly, tie the A, B, and C pillars into the frame, hard mount the body, mount suspension seats to the cage supports under them, X brace in the B pillar and then put in the correct height door bars so you have to climb in through the window unless they are racing and if you aren't racing, you aren't building a roll cage.

You are more than welcome to build and install whatever you like though but until you do the above, you are building a predict the future version of something that isn't a roll cage.

I have a 2 Inch Suspension lift, 1 inch body lift with 32 k02s and skids and a winch. The Jeep has done Moab, slickrock, and a bunch of other local trails. It always surprises me what it can tackle.
