I ordered an Atlas 5H

Honestly, I would start with 500 or more rounds of match ammo and start shooting. Work on technique; hold, trigger, body position, recoil control, etc. Reloading adds a whole bunch more variables to deal with.

That's the plan. I ordered 600 rounds of Hornady match grade 6.5 Creedmoor rounds. I figure that should be a good start, and then once I run through all that I'll save the brass and start focusing on re-loading it.

Now all I've got to do is get some optics.

I'm really eyeing the Vortex Viper PST Gen II or the Vortex Razor HD. I hear a LOT of good stuff about Vortex, and everything I've read states that they have the best warranty in the industry and they're very, very easy to get ahold of. People also really seem to like their scopes, and their price points aren't that bad either. I figure I'll get a 5-25x 50mm FFP scope. That should probably be enough to shoot out to 1000+ yards (when I get that good). I believe they have an 8-40x scope, but that seems like it might provide such a narrow field of view that it would be too much?

25 on the top end is plenty for 1+ plus. I never needed more than 20x at 1k and at times less when it was hot and there was mirage. I even ran a straight 10x on my 308 out to 1k. Not ideal but was doable. Like I said, I love Vortex gear and use many different Vortex products. I haven't looked through the gen II Razor but am sure it is great. If 3k is too much to spend take a look at the Bushnell Elite 3.5-21. Great scope for the price and tough as nails. The Nightforce ATACR 5-25 is a beast of a scope for 2400ish.

The Atlas is, too expensive for what it is, IMO. It was all the rage when it first came out. Several guys in my club bought them but after extensive usage went back to the Harris.

Vortex type of the line scope is the Razor HD AMG. It's 100& made in the US, not even the glass is imported. They make the glass for it right there in the factory as well. The MSRP is something like $3499, but many online retailers sell it for around $2500, which isn't bad for a top of the line scope.

I've heard from a few people that own it (it's a pretty new scope so it hasn't been out long) and the guys who do own it rave about how nice it is.

So I think I'll end up going with a Vortex. I like the fact that they have such a huge presence on internet forums, social medial, etc. That makes me want to do business with them, because you know that they'll be around to back their product up. No sense in buying a $2500 scope if the guys who sell it to you can't even be gotten ahold of.

Same reason I like Amazon so much. You have a problem, you let them know, and they make it right almost instantly. Customer service and support goes a long, long ways in my book.

His weapon of choice......6.5 Creedmore.
His down range groups are very impressive.

You're rifle looks much more tactical though......nice.

The 6.5 Creedmoor is a fantastic round, and reasonably priced (especially when compared to something like a .338 Lapua).
