Trunk leakage?

You need to align the tailgate. The latch side is low, due to either misadjustment or wear of the hinges.
Like i said i think it’s because of the missing nut that should hold the latch. But the water comes in from the right side the left side is always dry
Not only is it torn, it looks deformed. Probably from resting against the added piece that was on your tailgate. You really should replace it.
The tailgate latch post is adjustable, to help it close all the way. You also need to adjust the hinges, assuming they're not worn out, to raise the left side.
No, it's not. The latch holds the tailgate closed...that's it. The hinges align the tailgate. If the tailgate is sagging, it might align better once you bang it closed over the latch, but that's not how it should work.
I cant just replace that. What would I buy? How would I take it off? Who should I get to do it? This is all too much. The hinges are on the right side and they feel tight/fine. I think it’s just the latch that needs a nut in the back to hold it in place
I dont see any sag at all. Plus im on a hill. At this point Ive given up so I’m just gonna have to have my trunk area be wet Idk anyone who would help me
All hollow seals will have a hole in them...that's because it needs to compress when the door is closed and that's where the air vents in and out of the seal "tube".
Loosen the hinges, adjust the tailgate so it closes right, then tighten the hinges.
I had an attitude once that caused lots of problems...once I took care of that, everything was easier to fix.
What attitude? Why does me being ill equiped/ unknowledgeable come off as attitude? I’m being honest about what I see and thats just the way it is
You have 3 options then.
1: Live with a leaky jeep and all the other problems that you'll eventually find
2: Pay attention and listen to those that are trying to help you learn
3: Sell the jeep and go lease a new car with a warranty that you won't need to fix
Did you adjust it, or is it better now that the spare tire is off?
If removing the spare tire helped, then your hinges have too much play and sags down with the weight of the spare. Also, the latch post shouldn't have to lift the tailgate for it to be square when shut.
The tailgate looks squared up (now), but is it flush to the rest of the body? If not, you still need to adjust the latch so it pulls the tailgate in tight when shut.

I didnt touch a thing except take the tire off. I made sure the latch was tight (without the needed nut i need to get) I did a water test and it was heavy wet in the trunk space. I then tried with the rubber peice on the gate which i modified alittle and barely any got in just a smige on the right side. I’ve come to the opinion that the previous owner placed the rubber on the gate to help with the rubber on the window and together they make a pretty good seal. I think he saw the same problem and instead of placing guled rubber on the window he decided to place rubber on the door that he could replace, etc which ive come to think is pretty smart. I’m gonna look into those parts that screw in on the sides where the glass rubber meets the frame and see if that solves the problem
