We often see posts around about how some behavior isn’t good, but somehow rationalized as okay because “it’s a Jeep thing”.

It seems like a good time to again dispel those fallacies.

I have to do the (trademarked) jeep wave to a new JL/Gladiator to some soccer mom who is too busy looking at her phone instead of driving:
but hey its a jeep thing

"It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand." was directly aimed at anyone that "Would never drive a Jeep". Soccer moms, some purse puppy owners, and other types come to mind.

Sadly the marketing and design teams have been working on making the Jeep different enough for so long that some people now think they understand enough to buy one. Soccer moms, some purse puppy owners, and other types come to mind again. I do wonder how many of those buyers get another one. I bet it's not too many.

I really don't think the marketing and design teams will ever quit trying for more buyers and at some point there will be no real Jeeps available.

Keep you TJ going! It's a Jeep thing!

"It's a Jeep thing. You wouldn't understand". That phrase has always struck me as childish and arrogant; akin to "Don't follow me. You won't make it". I've seen guys in Honda Civics that have wheeled on the trail better than some built Jeep owners so that last one never made sense to me. I suppose I'm just a realist in that regard. Of course, driving around a school bus of a Jeep doesn't help me keep a humble and subdued reputation.

Even "Trail rated" is a bit much; whatever it's really trying to say. I mean, I see a badge like that on a Wrangler and think 'you don't say'.......

Going back to the original CJs it was about trying to get a larger sales pool. Updating and "refining" the vehicle. But the upgrades were always based on keeping R&D funding low due to the low sales figures. Modernization was always well behind the curve. Instead using a proven old-school technology over the state of the art. For the most part it still is. But the 4 door and good marketing has morphed the core buyer from a rancher/farmer (less than 1% now) needing a rugged offroad vehicle that could get them to town on Sunday for church to (mostly) a female with kids that is looking to find another husband (or vice-versa) hoping to show they still "live on the edge" a bit, even though they really don't even keep the vehicle outdoors let alone get dirty. The whole focus of a car company is to sell cars. And unfortunately Jeep has finally found a way to do that.

What else can you remove the top, doors, and even fold down the windshield if you want and just have a blast driving, even if just to the grocery store :)

But hey it's a F'ing jeep thing

All I can say is my TJ makes me WANT to drive it . It’s slow as Christmas compared to my deleted F250, rides like a TJ, wind blows it around , gets less than stellar mileage, wife hates it
...and right now I think it’s about the coolest thing on wheels , I even fantasize about it, especially on warm sunny days.

It’s a Jeep thing, and yes, I would understand.

Whatever. The wave is a thing among lots of mutual owners. It's nothing unique with Jeep owners.

Covette owners
Motorcycle riders
Harley riders
Boaters
Even Mazda Miata owners do the wave to each other.

Mini coopers(ers) wave too
I think the Toyota guys just glare and grunt a little. But it counts.

Help me understand this.

So it’s a bad thing to get women interested in driving Jeeps?

What’s bad/upsetting about soccer moms driving Wranglers?

I would much rather see a woman in a Jeep than a guy.

I wish my mom had driven me around to soccer/football/baseball or whatever sport practice in a Jeep back in the day instead whatever YOU feel a mom should drive.

I believe your, “Jeep Thingis preferreing to wave at guys in Jeeps. 😂 Correct me if I am wrong

Is there something special one has to understand to be able to buy one?
Maybe it is a “Jeep thing” and all the ones I own and work on, I still dont understand. Help me understand.

So getting the Jeep dirty makes you a real Jeep owner and makes it a real Jeep?

I’m lost at what getting a Jeep dirty or not getting a Jeep dirty had to do with being a Jeep owner?

Is it a bad thing that Jeep wants to sell more Jeeps to more people? Regardless of where they come from, what they do, or what they know, every Jeep Wrangler owner was once new to Jeeping; even you.
