Lifted trucks for street use: Why?

Lifting a diesel is the first step before you start "rolling coal".

Some idiot airman of mine back in FL asked me to help him wire in this diesel controller to his Ram that had the "coal" setting as a selectable function. He blacked out my whole neighborhood with that idiocy, he was so proud of himself lol. Whatever, when I was his age I was smoking alternators and rattling windows with the two 15" subs in the back of a shitty Honda Civic.

I can kind of understand because I was once young and stupid. I'm no longer young :ROFLMAO: I get a real WTF when I see a truck with a 8" exhaust stack running up in the middle a truck bed. How do you hul anything without impacting your exhaust pipe.

I built a Jeep in 2005 and took it all over Moab. Then I thought how much more fun it would be to camp at these spots rather than just visit. So I built an '11 F 250 with a camper and took it all over Moab. Had a ball with it for 5 years. The truck looked good and a lot of compliments. Not stupid tall, just a 4" lift on 35's. But then I needed more comfort so now I have a small Class C towing another Jeep. I wouldn't call my Jeep built, just slightly modified with 2" lift on 31's. But I still admire a nicely done lifted truck.

Many diesel trucks are 'nose heavy' . . . . many folks have them leveled. Many run airbag suspension. No big deal . . .

A 5.9L Cummins engine is 1150 lbs.
A 350 Chevrolet motor is 600 lbs.
The Cummins is 9 cubic inches more displacement than the Chevrolet.

I find it interesting the different names for different “lifts”. Like the rear sag on that truck. The first time I saw it where I’m at, I asked the guy what in the world he called it. Young guy said “Dude it’s sick, you never heard of a Texas Tilt?”
So now I see it called a California lift. I wonder what else it’s called?

This is my 2005 F150. I bought it in November 20004. It’s a 2wd King Ranch. I scrounged parts and pieces together to level and lift it 8 1/2”, and run 35’s on it. I did enough motor work to bump it from 300 stock to around 480 horsepower. I built it like that because it was kind of my version of a trophy truck. It has the factory audiophile system and DVD player in it as my kids were younger at the time. (Came in handy when camping, and long trips) This was before Ford came out with Raptors, and everybody came out with others that look like this. It just now has 120k miles on it. I’ve had it in the mud, deep water, on the beach, and lightly on the rocks at different times, and still drive it to the mall if needed. Trust me, at 60 I’m not compensating for anything, and still enjoy driving it, even to the mall if need be.

The leather in the back seat has stains from dog drool, small kids, gun oil, and who knows what. It can still smoke the tires, and tows the toys.

I’ve had both lifted and lowered trucks, because like working and customizing stuff but since about ‘04 they’ve all been pretty stock since they have been more tow rigs than anything.
Though I’m not a big fan of the custom trends that are considered cool nowadays I do like that they are keeping the aftermarket industry moving.

Not everyone in the south squats their truck like that. : )

I've had this truck for 20 years and it's been like this for 18 years, but only had the topper for the last 6 or 7 years.

You liking that topper? I didn’t get one initially because I told myself I’d have to haul something taller than the roof someday, so far that hasn’t happened. Now my trifold bedcover is starting to fall apart and I’m thinking about a topper. It’d be nice for the dogs.

I don't think any of us are bagging on members trucks posted above. They all look pretty tame or at least normal. Out here in Cali were talking giant lifts, giant tires and giant exhaust. And I agree with the above poster. The main reason for doing this appears to be to go faster. As they're always up your ass on the freeway. With their 2 million candle power lights shining into your vehicle and rear view mirror. lol.

Based on their driving attitudes. They all appear to be young and stupid. Or never grew up. (I feel the same way about all the young guys in rice burners racing on the freeway. I swear they must give Honda Civics away these days. Everybody and their brother has one. And they ALL seem to drive like aholes racing on the freeway.) I also don't know how they hear with their giant lugged mud tires doing 90 on the freeway. It's almost deafening when they drive by. Personally it seems like they are compensating for something. But to each their own.

That raked look (Isn't that what it used to be called in custom car circles?) with the front higher than the back. Is common out here too. But mostly on sand trucks. I have never seen a truck like that blue one with the rear so preposterously low to the ground.

I will say this. I'm a big fan of hotrods and ratrods. And they've done some things in recent years that started or re-enforced some cool trends in car building. That were artistically out there. But spending ten grand on a HUGE lift, HUGE tires and a HUGE exhaust. Just seems like your buying into something to compensate. And why does it always look like the guy couldn't afford it in the first place? And probably should have put a down payment on a house?! lol.

Stuff similar to this all over Cali freeways. He could roof his house on top of that thing!

I like it. I have a 6 x 10 trailer that I can use for something that would be to tall. I bought it used from a guy nearby on Craigslist for $600. I would have liked the carpet lining on it, but wasn‘t going to pay more that twice that for a new one with the liner. It’s funny, we bought it thinking we were going to camp at the beach and sleep in the back and mount a rack on top for some kayaks. Once my wife found out how many gators are around here she refused to kayak. And we never once went camping and slept in it. LOL but I still like it and it’s been nice not having to bag everything up in the back if it’s raining.

For years, my younger brother called it an “old man” truck because of the wheels, and then really ragged on me about it after the topper. LOL. Then a few years later he put a topper on his truck I got to pay him back a little.

Before that, I had a floor mounted tool box in it.

I've lifted my trucks in the past. I like the look. Though I kept the lifts small. My Silverado was a 3.5" lift with 285s

My ram 2500 had a 2" leveling kit on the front, as long as it was the rake killed the look. Leveling out the front made it look 100x better in my opinion

The term you are looking for is “brodozer” 😉
