Question about MORryde install

I have got my new Morryde tire carrier installed all but the tire carrier. I am looking for one because I tossed mine when I installed my bumper/carrier combo. I had to a sheet on alum. and use the plate as a guide to make a spacer since I am running alum. corners

My question is what are these extra holes in the tailgate plate for ?

Do they line up with the tire snubber holes? I believe they did on mine.

They do line up with holes that are drilled completely through the tailgate. The other have nutserts installed, was it normal for the snubbers to be installed with a bolt going all the way through the tailgate ?

Mine were only bolted into nutserts.

I “think” early and late years had them in different spots but they drilled holes for all of them. But am not at all positive about that. Would need someone with more knowledge to confirm.

Is there a reason the extra holes are concerning you?

My 06 only had 3 snubbers and nutserts. 2 on the tailgate and the 1 just below it on the tub.

They line up with the holes used by the Rock Hard Tire Carrier support bar ?

They drilled all the holes Jeep has used over the years for the snubbers - older vs new means some holes will just be open.

Early years had 5 snubbers, later years had 3. The Exogate has 5 holes so it works with all years.

BTW the bolts for the early year snubbers are 1/4-20 and the bolts for the later years are 6mm.

What size tire? I have a better recommendation if you’re running big rubber.

The Jeep engineers didn't remove the bottom two on the tailgate in later models in order to make the tailgate/spare carrier weaker .

The bottom one on the tub is the most important and the top two are next, the bottom two on the tailgate can be eliminated with the Exogate, but make sure the ones you do install press firmly into the spare, they won't have much snubbing action if they're not firmly into the spare.

This is what I run on my exogate. It’s thick steel and very strong. My tire is pressed up right against the exogate - and if you do end up going the stock carrier route and it fails I would consider this. It’s the only one I’ve found that doesn’t shove the tire a stupid amount away from the body. I just had to trim a little bit of the exogate lip at the top to make it all play nice - check out my build thread for some pics if you’re interested.
