What did you do to your TJ today?

Installed short shifter then finished fabricating my new switch panel and flip up/down camera monitor setup. Now just need the actual switches to get everything wired up.

Amazon Tuffy Lock Box

The Amazon title for this product is not correct. It says "Tuffy 250-01 Conceal Carry Security Drawer, Vhcles Forward Fits Tj 97-02 Where The Driver's Side Seat Does Not Flip All The Way Up. These Vehicles" Based on the manufacturer's website and the part number, this is for the 97-02 TJ where the seats flip up. I confirm it works with seats that flip up.

The instructions are incorrect. In the tools listed it says a 5/64" allen wrench. It should be a 6/32". The instructions say you need a 5/16" wrench. It is actually 7mm.

The instructions say to install it with the drawer removed. I did that, and the drawer was very stiff to move in and out. I removed it, and reinstalled with the drawer in it. That freed up the motion of the drawer considerably. I think something flexes when you tighten it down. Having the drawer in it, reduces how much it flexes when you tighten the seat bolts back up.

The bolt-block plate is questionable in it's effectiveness. It doesn't cover the seat bolt enough to fully prevent removal. It will make it considerably more of a challenge, but I think it could be easily bent a little and be bypassed.

The key is huge. It is almost as big as my Jeep key. Not sure why they had to have such a large key. Suggestions for the manufacturer would be to go with a smaller key, or at least make it a cylinder that could be rekeyed to the owners Jeep key.

Overall, I think the drawer is pretty good. Will it deter a determined thief, probably not if he has some time to break into it. Will it prevent a casual opportunist, definitely.

I also noticed my floor mat wasn't laying down properly, so I took the hair dryer to it and heated it up. That made it lay down like it was supposed to and now the drawer clears the top of the floor mat when I open it.

Overall, a fun day tinkering with my Jeep. 🙂

Does that completely tie in to existing holes/bolts?

This waiting for stuff longer then a day or 2 is for the birds. LOL

Try living on the other side of the world....Everything I order small or large takes 3 weeks...(unless I pay more crazy money for it to be fast-tracked  in 1 week)

I have done a lot of work to the front end to fix all the issues of death wobble. I replaced my 31x10.50 tires and wheels with 33x12.50. Since then I have noticed it easily followed the lines of the road. If the road is uneven it will dart in the opposite direction that I have the pressure on the steering wheel. That seemed weird to me as when on level road I can twitch the steering wheel back and forth and the jeep would follow so I thought my steering was tight. then the other night coming home from work I was in a swooping right hand turn that has a small dip in it and it darted left on me. upon inspection I noticed I do have play in the steering box. So I researched and most posts say not to adjust the steering box adjustment. However I said I will give it a try. I tightened it down about 3/8 turn and went for a drive. it returns to center just fine and the darting has been reduced significantly. I am going to adjust again today. I will adjust the nut until the steering wheel doesn't return to center by itself then back it off a little.

Just like with anything. you fix the big things first and keep narrowing it down until its right. This front end keeps revealing the little things. I am glad to say I am about out of little things left and the driving just keeps getting better!

Spent some time cleaning up my 1ton axles for my swap. 15 years of sitting on a farm, the axles and components needing some cleaning. Used Zep industrial degreaser and my local wand car wash late at night :)

Putting in that wire wheel work. Might sandblast the little nooks I couldn't get. Just need to primer and paint now.

Will take housing to work to an industrial sandblast company. Then need to strip mounts off axle and send for shortening.

I decided to find out why I had water on the passenger floor after rain. Like everyone else, I expected to find the cowl drain plugged up or covered with junk.

I did not.

Made sure the plastic drain duct was free with compressed air, water, more air and more water.

It was.

With the hose running, I could see it backing up, but not really far enough to get into the hvac intake. Oh sure. The foam could be compromised.

It was not.

Then I saw it. Them. Remnants of owners past. Removal of some "thing" and several open wounds. One of which looked suspiciously guilty. The upper two were too high and didn't open up into the interior. The lower one though....oh....yes. you little bastard. Put the compressed air to it and I could hear it inside the Jeep. Stuck a wire through it and could feel it hit wiring or insulation or ducting. Cleaned it up, squirted some silicone in the hole, started a screw in the hole with some more silicone under the head and sent it home. Wiped up the excess and let it dry overnight. Siliconed the hvac duct since it was now off. Rechecked it this morning and no drip inside the dash. Found out the reason why one of the cowl screws wouldn't tighten up was due to whoever put it back on the last time didn't even get the screw in the clip, so it was just hanging in there.

Do you know why the holes were there?

Hi I don’t know how to navigate but I got a 2000 wrangler backcountry edition. I just bought it and wondered what that means
I don't recall a "Backcountry" edition for the 2000 Wrangler, but in the event a dealer put together their own package, it would more than likely just be a cosmetic change to one of the 3 available platforms, SE (4 cylinder) Sport, or Sahara (both 6 cylinders.

Did the clutch bypass of the safety switch. Super easy. Also found a kill switch hidden from PO. But traced it down under the shifter console and it was disconnected. Does anyone know how I can reconnect it? Not exactly sure what they did here.....or where it originally was connected.

Welcome Svott.. it’s just a edition offered in that year.. probably has a sticker or maybe different gears or a bigger tire package.. goto the home page and select new members.. if you scroll to the bottom it will give you some tips to navigate the forum

I don’t have an answer for ya but I imagine it was disconnected for a reason imo. Good job on the bypass...
