Is there a way to delete the console mounted airbag switch without setting the airbag light on 2000 tj se ?

There's a way to do anything, I'm jut not sure in this case how you would do it without setting the light off or rendering the airbag non-functional.

You're going to want to go through the factory wiring diagrams in the FSM, which you can download here for free:
Jeep Wrangler TJ Factory Service Manuals (FSM) & Technical Documentation

If you (or someone you know) are good with wiring, you should be able to figure out how to delete it without causing any issues.

Most TJs don't have the passenger airbag switch, so it's not very common.

Really? dammit.. mines an odd ball

I think it came on the earlier TJs. I've never seen it on a 2003-2006 TJ.

I believe it was on the lowest trim option models such as SE and X models.

and sport, but mines a 2001. they probably changed it at the 02/03 break i would imagine. I find mine kinda handy.

Okay, that's odd.

Maybe it was a factory option or something? Seems like there is some mystery surrounding this one.

Curious as to why you’r wanting to delete it.

I wish mine had the option to disable the passenger airbag since I dont run a backseat, I’d like to be able to take one of the kids for a ride.

Save your pearl clutching- I know the back seat is safest and that children will immediately die horrible horrible deaths if they so much let a diapered butt cheek touch a front seat.

My 99 Sahara has the switch. Why not just pull the switch out of the panel and tuck it into the console so you can't see it if your wanting to put an accessory switch panel in it's place. Or you can always pull the bulb out of the cluster.

I added that switch to my '98 Sahara for the exact reasons BoldlyGoing mentioned. It wasn't plug and play but it was easy enough. It's just a simple switch with an indicator light. I'm sure you could remove the switch, connect a few wires together, and tuck them away. Like was asked though, why? That change tray that goes there was useless.

According to your wiring diagram it looks like you can just remove the switch and splice together the two circuits going to the passenger airbag squibs. Your passenger airbag will always be on and you shouldn't get any lights. I would do so with the battery disconnected &/or the squibs unplugged to be safe. I've seen technicians accidentally set off airbags, it isn't pretty.

My 99 Sahara also has the switch.

I like having it because when I take my 5 yo wheeling in the summer and it starts raining, I'll move him up front to keep him dry and get him closer to the heater vents. I can shut off the airbag for the off chance we crash.

Rear-facing child restraint devices must be placed in the back seat of a vehicle. In the event the vehicle does not have a back seat, the child restraint device may be placed in the front passenger seat only if the vehicle is either not equipped with a passenger side airbag or the passenger side airbag has been deactivated.

So I *think* that airbag switch came on vehicles that did not come with a rear seat.

Since a child seat would need to be fitted in the front seat, the switch was added to models without the rear seat option.

Which is what made me think it was only an option on lower trim models such as the SE and X, being as though they were the barebones models.

However, being that some people have said they have the airbag switch on their Sport, that makes me wonder. I didn't think you could order a Sport without a rear seat, but that of course doesn't mean it wasn't possible.

I also have a 2000 Sport with the airbag switch that also came with a back seat (which was thrown away awhile back)... but I don't remember it having any child seat anchors

could it be because it was a fold and tumble rear seat?

My build sheet for my 99 Sport lists "Passenger Air Bag On/Off Switch" as standard equipment. I also had the fold and tumble rear.

Yup, mine's listed as well (2001 Sport). I also have fold and tumble, child seat attachment points, filp/fold front seats.
Interesting..
