I Love People, here's why.

I seem to be collecting them at a prodigious rate. There was a gun for sale, price was fair, it was advertised in very good condition.

The same sort of BS as above started but I worked through it and made the deal. Main point of contention is after I sent funds, I didn't hear back from him in a reasonable time and when I asked he replied that he tries to answer emails within 24 hours even though that wasn't the case when I was working the deal on the purchase. It only came into play after I sent the money. As per usual, they want the Friends and Family transaction which I don't do for purchases. I added the fees and sent it over.

Gun arrives and it is beat to shit. Or beat to shit for a gun described in "very good condition". Looks like it was leaning against a table and someone knocked it over. Barrel band has a ding it in, receiver has a nice ding in it, gun is filthy, packaging was crap, and the magazine is worn badly.

I contact the guy, ask him if he sent a different gun than he described, or did FedEx beat it up? He lamely tried to explain that he meant mechanical, not aesthetic. I explain that my position is very simple. Had he posted up pictures detailing the aesthetic, I would have passed and never made the purchase, now that I am in possession of a misrepresented item, I want a remedy. Refund of an amount to lower the price to a commensurate level or take it back and issue a refund.

I don't hear back from him for a period of time that makes me a bit nervous so I hop into PayPal and start the dispute process. I get a phone call from him 10 minutes later. I guess we can make contact in a timely manner when it matters, eh?

I can send you some pellets and refund shipping. Not gonna happen
You can send it back and I'll sell it and send you the money. Not gonna happen.
I can refund the shipping and call it even. Not gonna happen.
You can keep it and I'll send you some pellets, two magazines, and some targets. Not gonna happen.
I don't have any money. Not my problem.
I have medical bills. Not my problem.
I'm a very honest person and my intention wasn't to deceive you. Has no bearing on the situation.

We need to come to a agreement to fix this, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Yes we do and your options are full refund and I ship it back on my dime or 50% refund and I keep it.
We don't need to get PayPal embroiled in this mess. Oh yes we do because now I have your full attention and I don't have to wait for 24 hours to see if you're going to respond.

I relented and gave him one additional out. He can relist the gun and I will ship it to the new owner after I receive funds.

Wow... Seriously? That sounds like a nightmare experience. I wouldn't have even given him that additional way out. Did you buy it on GunBroker? Did the guy have good feedback if so?

You could always file a chargeback. I was in a similar situation once. I paid via PayPal, but used my Visa to do so. I need up filing a chargeback and had all my money back within 5 days.

Not GunBroker and not a nightmare. It isn't even a bad dream at this point. The reality is, I'm used to dealing with fucktards so he doesn't even register very high on my annoyed scale. I'm just fucking with him at this point because I can. I will accidentally make his life miserable by not shipping in a timely manner, I will use USPS parcel shipping which can take up to 21 days to arrive. There may or may not be a typo in the address zip code that will necessitate a bit of unfucking to get delivered and I won't ship until I contact the new owner with a phone call to tell him just how much of an idiot this guy is. And I'm not closing the dispute with PayPal until I have it all resolved.

He will pay dearly for accusing me of having a "persecution complex".

One time I filed a complaint against a buyer by opening a dispute. The buyer had shipped me an item in an empty box (no kidding) which was obviously an attempt to scam me. When the buyer provided the tracking number to PayPal which said it had been delivered, PayPal filed it favor of the buyer, saying that since the item was delivered, there was nothing they could do. I even included photos of the empty box in the PayPal claim!

Either way, I was still covered, because I filed a chargeback with my bank. Nonetheless, it just goes to show that even with PayPal, you're not always protected.

I had to finally escalate the dispute to claim status because the seller pretty much lost it. He had indicated early on that he was bothered very much by folks demanding timely responses from him. So, I waited a week before I asked for an update at which point he pretty much freaked out and went sideways on me. Then the feller he sold it to is going to allow him to forward the package without opening it to make sure it wasn't damaged in shipping from me to the seller. The good news is I got my refund and them two folks can just leave me out of it.

For another episode of "I love people"- I'm looking to try some different things with one of my air guns so I dig around and find a choked barrel from a company, the search engine takes me to the product page and I make the purchase. It is a company I've bought from previous so I send an email giving them a heads up on the order. I get no response. Send another a few days later, same result. After a week I go to the home page and find the notice that they are closed for the next two weeks and I ordered the night before they started the closure.

I get a bit impatient and find a similar part on another website and then find it posted in a classified ad. The ad shows exactly what I want so I send a request for a PayPal amount. I get a message back that he only accepts checks and money orders for payment. WTF?

I get wanting to do things the old way, what I don't get is using modern selling tools like the internet, digital classified ads, and an actual website to do so. If you are going to sell electronically, you really should consider some sort of electronic medium to collect payment. Otherwise, get off the internet, take out a small ad in the back of a gun magazine somewhere and enjoy doing it the old way.

I'm as stodgy and set in my ways as the next, but there is no way I'm mailing anyone a check for a purchase, waiting for it to clear, and then waiting for my part to get here. Don't get me wrong, we use checks for large purchases of 5000 or more when we buy brake parts but my vendor has a check reader on his desk, he runs my check through and it has cleared my account before I get home with the parts.
