The good news thread

My PTSD trigger words: "real estate closing"
Best wishes for a smooth one.
It’s becoming mine. A quote I attribute to my boss, “I hate customers. They can fuck up the simplest thing.”

Ready for some more Owen?

Sunday, his Mom and brother went for a walk. Owen didn’t want to go and opted to stay with Dad. Dad was working in the garage and took a break to check on Owen. Bear in mind, Owen was fully dressed when Dad went into the garage 10 minutes earlier. Dad found Owen sitting on the floor, in front of the tv, watching Frozen, in his skivvies. He also wrapped three of his brothers Tae Kwan Do belts around his waist, had his battle sword in one hand, and was eating M&Ms with his other hand, out of a bowl he snagged from the kitchen table.
All Dad asked was if anybody said he could have the M&Ms. Owen said no, stood up, carried the bowl into his room and shut the door.

I’ve gotten to watch a lot of sports I missed due to being overseas, I got to watch the pats win Super bowl 2002 and 2004, now I’m watching the 03 ALCS. These corona games aren’t half bad.

I mean, this is the first time I’ve ever seen it, kind of blows my mind. Pretty damn cool, I know they win, but I don’t know how it plays out.
Clemens/Martinez pitching, a young Derek jeter...just kind of cool to see

That looks like a Blacktail buck on your wall. You been sneaking over to Calif., Oregon or Washington hunting?

Good news, bad news.
Got a contract on the house we are selling.
30 days of dealing with annoying people.

Scored 40 lbs worth of very good chicken breast today at restaurant depot (had to buy the whole box) not bad @ $1.67/lb. Got 17 lbs of Tri-tip beef last week there. I am able to load the freezer as well as supply my late 80's parents and others around me with meat that is tough to find now. Chicken is the new "unobtainium" lately.

After a long and painful reno my latest investment property is set to close next Friday. I have a great full time job, but rehab and sell 1-2 homes a year for extra income. It has been a game changer for us financially but the work is brutal while balancing a full time gig, we do most of the work ourselves and only outsource roofing and major skilled jobs. I’m think I may be done for a while. We’ve meet all the short term goals we set when we started this in 2014. I’ll have some extra cash in the Jeep budget once the check clears.

I did my weekly grocery run last night, I’ve found Friday nights to be easiest, store is mostly empty. This morning I got the workout in, dropped off my parent’s cut of last night’s haul, hit Home Depot to swap out my propane tank so my pizza oven is good to go for a while, then got back home & made this cup of Joe to enjoy in my breakfast room at 7am as the sun is rising on what the weather people tell me will be a beautiful weekend in the 70s, gonna do some yard work, pop the top & doors & take a long drive in the beast. Life is good

Moma goose and the babies fled the nest/pepper pot.

Here is the story, I have these metal "Washbins" on the pier to grow peppers. Geese come along and try to make a nest, I chase them off, they keep coming back. She jumps back in so I go out to put a cinder block in the pot and an egg is in there. Cruel I guess but take the egg out and put the block in. The next morning the goose lays an egg right on the pier next to the bin, wife can't take it and moves the block and puts the egg in the nest and here we go. 30 days later watching everyday working from home the eggs hatch and this morning they dropped in the water and gone. Will need to get some pics, they are cute as hell.

Anyway can get to the boat again and clean the pollen and crap off. Block going back on for a few weeks, not moving again. 2 bins out on the pier, here is the nest remains.

Crappy pics I know, older kindle...

Looks like you have your retirement gig all figured out and enjoying it. Good for you!

The good news is that I have the best girlfriend ever.

Kimberly is a special education teacher, primarily young (4yo) kids with downs syndrome & autism; it has continued virtually which you can imagine is extremely difficult. She’s a single mom of 3 kids, one in college, one just graduating from high school & one just finishing middle school. She works part time as a yoga instructor as well. To say she’s got a lot on her plate is an understatement.

With all that she has been coming over to check on me and spend time with me. Like so many others I’m entering about the 7th week of total isolation, living and working alone I don’t see many people except when I hit the grocery store once a week.

I’ve been the custodian of a feral cat for going on three years, I call him Nero & he lives on my porch in a cat house I built for him & I feed him dry food/water daily to supplement the fresh meat he kills. He’s a true wild animal, always getting into brawls with God only knows what, but I see the aftermath when he returns home beat up. I can’t imagine the pain he’s inflicted on others too, he’s one super muscular beast.

A few weeks ago he limped home on a bad driver’s side rear wheel, apparently he was in a pretty vicious smackdown. At first I didn’t think much of it as it’s par for the course. But when it didn’t work itself out I boxed him up & brought him to the Vet. They said it appears to be an infection likely brought about by a bite so they gave him antibiotics & pain killers. I figured it was a good idea to keep him off of it for a while but that’s tough to do living outside so I picked up the necessary items to bring him in, kitty litter & a bed, I’ve got him sequestered in the laundry room so he has nowhere to walk… but alas I forgot a litter scoop. I was telling Kimberly about this & she offered to bring one over, she has a few cats & all sorts of extra gear.

Now to the point of this post. The video is her arrival, I was sitting in the hut (my outdoor kitchen) just listening to music when she appeared dancing her way in, this is pretty typical as she often arrives with a dance & it really captures her nature – always happy, always upbeat, & always looking to help anyone and everyone she can. She’s the best ever & today marks the third anniversary of the day we met, one of the best days of my life and I knew the moment I saw her I struck gold. It’s been the best 3 years of my life.

Look for the litterbox scoop in her hand:

Bonus, she also gave me a haircut which beat the hell out of the butcher job I did on myself last month 😁.

my son pulled into the driveway with his new to him (2014) Grand Cherokee Altitude, pretty nice vehicle, really clean, 45,000 miles. I couldn't find a 4WD or hi/low selector, but it's a 4WD according to the buildsheet & the markings. Looks like some kind of full time AWD system, anyone familiar with these?
