Retirement pistol

It’s not 100% done yet, but I’m close and I want to celebrate with a nice 1911. I have owned a few but they were more of plain Jane, mil spec guns which worked great and I shoot that platform the best out of all models.

This is not a carry gun, I have others for that Duty.

This is a sorta flashy (not bright like chrome, hate that but modded) range, fun, etc pistola.

I’ve always lusted for a custom Nighthawk, but I really can’t justify $4k on one.

Dan Wesson is my second choice and gets rave reviews. I’m really loving the Discretion. It’s setup like I want and suppressor ready.

so, besides gunbroker, is there a place to buy from with a good reputation!? My local shop could order me one but they are small and I’ll transfer through them but they don’t have the best prices.

Awesome man, congrats!!! Yes, got plenty of glocks and summer carry is a shield.

the 43 is a sweet shooter for sure! If my shield wasn’t such a damn good deal I’d have a 43 for sure. But it was $150 and I shoot it well! And I won’t mind if I lose it to evidence for a year.

My son just got a firearm off gun broker couple months ago no problems, prices were good back then same rifles a little higher now. Hardest part is finding what you want with all the surge in sales although it’s looking a little better. Looking down GB list of 45’s around the same price the one you picked out Is my first choice really nice looking. If I had to pick a second choice I’ve read good thing about Springfield Armory quality/value wise and 3rd I’d be curious about the CZ they are usually a lot of firearm for the money, depend too on what’s available but I really like the Dan Wesson. Good luck in your retirement and with the new 45

I have always loved the Ed Brown Executive Elite II with the Skip-Line checkering, but they were discontinued (or changed-up) a long time ago. Used is all that's available for the ones I like. To me, that Skip-Line checkering is pure elegance.

More realistically priced for me is the Dan Wesson Heritage. I've almost "pulled the trigger" (sorry) on one of these more times than I can count.

Both are beautiful guns. I don't think you could go wrong with the Dan Wesson, myself, but that's more of an emotional statement than one based on experience, to be honest.

You can still get the Skip-Line checkering on the custom builds, but the rest of the pistol design (Executive Elite) has some changes that just don't look quite the same to me.

That DW you're looking at is a good looking gun, I have to say. And for what you're getting in a semi-custom build, Dan Wesson firearms are a bargain, as I see it.

I’d love to have multiple custom 1911’s! It’s a one and done thing for me, unfortunately.

I need to justify this expensive purchase as a somewhat practical thing for my mind too! I wish I had more money than sense and I’d own a dozen of these works of art!!!

I totally get that. In fact, before I sat down at the computer and saw your thread, I had just had a discussion with the wife about not making any unnecessary purchases for a bit, just as something of a safety measure, financially speaking. Then after reading this thread, I thought to myself "Dammit!" I mean, I reeeeeally could see myself with that Heritage in hand...

Since this seems to be a one and done sorta purchase if the Mom & Pop aren't like $500 higher or something i'd go with them. Just my initial reaction these days with everything going on. Here where I live there are a good amt of places to deal with. Big city, Texas city, big difference. What's funny is my little sis retired and not sure exactly if she bought it or was gifted a nickel plated Colt 1911 but she gave it to my Dad. About a year later he gives it to me and said take this, wtf am I going to do with this cannon? I took a sideways aiming gangsta selfie and sent it to my sister and said hey thanks!

I've never been a huge fan of the 1911. That said I do own a Coonan and like it a lot.

A good friend has the same Dan Wesson you almost bought and loves it. He's a big 1911 guy and that's his favorite of his collection.

I have a High Standard Sentinel Mark III .357 magnum revolver, which is Dan Wesson's 15-2 when he was making and branding them for Sears (I believe, or one of those types of stores) before he went out under his own name. It has a removable "pork chop" barrel so I can change it out depending on what I'm doing. It's smooth and I like the cylinder release design in front of the cylinder. I've thought about one of his .44 magnum pistol packs.

Congratulations on the retirement. I bought a 1911 Springfield TRP a few years back. They are great guns.
