First I want to say I’m new to this forum! I had a 2013 JKU but got rid of it to buy the wife
a new Tahoe.

I just picked up a 2001 60th edition, 4.0, 5 speed with 104,000 miles for $7500 (always a southern Jeep, no rust at all!). I’m looking at the DPG kit and I am wondering if this would be a good starting platform? It will be a weekend warrior with occasional wheeling. I plan on running 33” tires on 15” wheels. Thanks!

Oh yeah, the tan top is going and black diamond is on order.

Yes that’s a perfect lift to run 33s. Just make sure you decide what your plans are for the TJ long term so your order correct coils. My theory on this is get the heavy springs. Worst case scenario is the Jeep sits slightly higher. If you start loading it up with a winch, aftermarket bumpers or skids you’re gonna need them.

I plan on adding a new front bumper with a winch and a new rear bumper with a swing tire carrier. This is a project Jeep for me and my step-dad so we want to do it right even though it will not see much off-road to begin with.

Before you decide on which rear bumper/tire swing, do yourself a favor and investigate the Exogate/MorRyde version of a tire carrier. You'll thank yourself every time you have to get in the back of the TJ, and not have to unlatch and swing out a bumper mounted tire swing.

I am running 33's on15 inch wheels with the DPG Ultimate kit. With the Ultimate kit (among others) you have to contact Dirk directly and he will ask you all sorts of questions about your jeep and your plans for it so he can set you up with the correct coils, (stiffness and rebound).

I have the DPG kit also. I think it’s a great kit for the money and gives you everything you need to successfully lift with minimal issues.

I’d do a dry steer test too before and note any issues you might have which might be exasperated when you install the lift. With mine I got death wobble due to some warn out steering parts.

One thing to note, you might be able to save some money by mix matching parts, some Rancho shocks (a lot of people regard to be the best and aren’t expensive), ~ 2” springs which are fairly cheap, a BL and a MML. Trackbars probably aren’t really needed on a short lift, at least not right away.

For my coil raiting on the DPG kit I went on the lighter side, I know I’ll probably replace the springs at some point but really they’re not too expensive and my Jeep will drive/sit better until I get around to some of those other mods. Depends on your timeline really.

I sent Dirk at DPG photos of the setup I had before I installed the OME kit. He was able to identify the reason for my bump steer which was due to a drop pitman arm. Replaced that too, problem solved.
