These "lift kits" basically put you at a starting point. It's up to you to do some research and cycle the suspension to fine tune the lift height and shock selection. To gain more up travel, you would need a shorter shock. A shorter shock will decrease your amount of down travel, so it's a compromise. Your limiter on droop will be the shocks. Yes, it's probably not good on the shock to be the limiting strap, but far less violent to it than bottoming it out on up travel.
