Wanting some real 33 inch tires

. . . I'd like to get a tire that actually is close or over 33". . . .

The tire diameters published by tire manufacturers, are reported to be the measured diameter when mounted on the rim width listed in the tire specifications, inflated to the maximum pressure on the tire sidewall, but not mounted on a vehicle or with any load on the tire. That is why purported diameter measurements from the top of the tire to the ground when mounted on the vehicle will never match the manufacturer's numbers and why so many erroneously claim that this or that brand "runs small" or that this or that manufacturer misrepresents tire size. Its not the tire or the tire manufacturer, its a faulty and unprincipled comparison using entirely different measuring methodology.

In any event, these are the typical published diameters for the following tire sizes:

33x12.50R15 - 33" diameter
35x12.50R15 - 35" diameter

265/75R16, aka "metric 32" - 31.6" diameter
285/75R16, aka "metric 33" - 32.7"diameter.
255/85R16, aka "pizza cutter 33" - 33.3" diameter
315/75R16 , aka "metric 35" - 34.6" diameter

These are nominal sizes. Actual sizes vary between tire manufacturers and tire models.

It’s mainly just BFG...they are grossly wrong in the actual height. All others seem to be pretty accurate.

Thanks to this awesome forum, I snagged a nice '04 Rubi back in winter. It has Falken 285's, which are often called 33"s, but listed actual size is less. The real size under the Jeep's load is 31.5" or so... with 37 psi.

Also have a JK with KO2s in same size, and it's the same thing, quite smaller than advertised, like 1.5" less.

I'm getting ready to get a lift and with the 4.10 gears, and five speed, I'd like to get a tire that actually is close or over 33". The Jeep now has plenty of power, I can pass/accelerate in fifth gear and take off from a dead stop in 2nd gear. Has original moabs which are 16". So do I look for something like a 315/75/16 so the supposed 35" will be close to 33"? Does that even make sense!?

Looking for suggestions on what's biggest size that won't make it feel underpowered or then have to start changing a lot of other components. Tires I like are KO2s, Wildpeaks, Dick Cepek FC II, and Mastercrafts. I like they hybrid AT/MT type. Gotta be good in snowy weather.
Got your answer yet?😂

I would get the 315/75/16 BFG Ko2 if your wanting a true 33” tire, because that’s exactly what that tire measures out how you are describing. You can measure it East to west also and it will be 33”. I’d venture to say you could measure it just about any way you wanted loaded on the Jeep or the spare under zero load and you’ll get a hair over 33”.

Does it matter if its a cattle dog?

Yes. Let the ACD measure. After your ACD correctly determines your tire size then he can fix your broken washing machine.

Have you measured the above tire on a spare tire carrier frodobaggins? Or do you just like stirring the pot?

Have you turned a single bolt on a TJ before? Or do you just like stirring the pot?

Mine can't do that, but he can differentiate between between the neighbors whose tires he mustn't pee on and the two he must. 😇

And he talks back to the evening news. Just like me.

This is the first picture I saw of him, the day before we met at the Central Coast Herding Dog Rescue in Paso Robles. I asked what he wanted to be called. He said, "Elvis."
