Anyone into sports memorabilia?

I am not a sports guy. Neither is my father.

He gave me his baseball he got when he was a kid from his uncle.


It is signed by the 1951 or 1952 Yankees. (I’d have to pull it out of the safe; it’s been years since I looked at it). It’s been wrapped in foil and stored in a safe for 40 some odd years. Perfect shape.

I have no idea how to get it authentication and value.

What prompted this, Whitey Ford just passed but I think I’m wrong his signature being on there.


Mickey Mantle and demaggio are though.

Nice, don't know much about it but sounds like some value there to the right buyer. there are plenty of Yankee fans, good team to have from a value perspective.

I bought a Ty Cobb at a auction at a discounted price only to have PSA tell me it was a fake. Although it was authenticated and had a certificate they informed me that the guy and his company was prosecuted for the scams.
You can send the ball to them or contact them to see when they will be in your area. It will cost you to have it authenticated but that ball is worth it.

Funny story, my boss and his buddy were fucking around with me and took a USPS box he had just received a baseball in and signed a glove Derek Jeter and stuck it in the box. Now my little guy is a collector so I gave it to him and told him to write a mushy thank you letter. Ah the power of the pen and a little boy who loves baseball, they both felt guilty and purchased him a real Jeter signed ball.

Thanks for the link, I sent them an email. They didn’t have info about team balls but showed a single signed Micky Mantle ball is worth 2000-3000 bucks.


Now not sure if the singles go for more than a team ball.


If it’s not worth a bunch I’ll just give it to my kid. Neither my father nor I have interest in it.

This reminds me of a Pawn Stars episode. Owner brings in item to sell. Main dude (Rick Harrison) says he doesn't know anything about the item, but has an expert on stand-by. Expert says the items is worth a bazillion dollars. Main dude says I'll pay you $20, because I have a business with overhead.
